Chapter 83 - Chapter 83 Handcuffs

Dmitri went as white as a sheet and, stumbling backward, dropped back into the chair he had just jumped out of. "No way, this is impossible, you can't be here, you're dead, there is no way you can be alive," Dmitri mumbles to himself.

"Why? Because you thought that you had succeeded in killing me with your own bare hands?" Mathayus asks, his dark eyes flashing with pure rage.

"Oh, I see what is going on here." Dmitri laughs hysterically. "The old man had months to come up with this charade. This man is not the prince, he's an imposter." Dmitri snorts.

"You all can't trap me with this rubbish!" He scoffs. "We knew you would play that card, so the chief had him do a DNA test as soon as he landed in the country. Care to read what it says?" The king asks as the chief places the results on the desk in front of Dmitri.

"It clearly says that this man is indeed my son and future king of this country, a position you will never hold." The king sneers. "I'll, um, give you men a few minutes to hash this out." The chief nods and hurries from the office.

'This wasn't possible, he was there, how the hell did Mathayus survive, no one could've survived that, no one.' Dmitri sighs as question after question runs through his head.

"Doesn't make much sense, does it?" Mathayus asks reading Dmitri's expression. "What are you referring to?" Dmitri asks through clenched teeth. "How I managed to survive." Mathayus snorts and continues.

"It didn't make much sense to the doctor that attended to me either, according to him, the drug that you shot me with had an 80% fatality rate, plus the beaten you gave me after, plus I was shoved from an aircraft, as far as he's concern, I should be dead three times over, he couldn't understand how I was still breathing much less walking around."

"That's a very interesting story you have there but you must have received one too many knocks on your head because I didn't do any of that to you, I had no reason to do any of those things, however, I'm glad you're alive and back home, but I really don't have the time to sit here and listen to you harp about it, I've lots more important things to do with my time." Dmitri moved to stand up, but Mathayus planted his hand firmly on Dmitri's shoulder, shoving him back down in the chair.

"A few too many knocks on my head is how you callously put it. I had to have brain surgery done because of you. I was unconscious for god knows how long, because of you, and yes, when I regained consciousness, I couldn't remember anything, not even who I was...

For months, I couldn't remember who I was, but then my memories returned, full force, I remembered every... thing." He sneers, his tone cold as ice next to Dmitri's ear, and Dmitri couldn't stop a chill from running down his spine.

"I remembered every word you spoke that day, even your self-absorbed, condescending laughter as your accomplices pounded my body with their feet, fists, and various objects...

I felt when you cut my hair, the last words you spoke to me before you shoved me from that aircraft were the line you took from the animated movie, The Lion King,...

We watched that movie together multiple times when we were small, and that was the line you spoke to me before trying to end my life, long live the king, right?" Mathayus snorts coldly.

"If you're under the illusion that you'll be walking away from this, then you're dead wrong, brother." Mathayus growls, his tone deadly. "Guard!" Mathayus calls, and immediately a guard opens the door and steps in.

"At your service, Your Highness," The guard nods. "I would prefer not to hurt him before this conversation ends, so please handcuff him to the table." "Right away, your highness."

The guard grabs one of Dmitri's hands and handcuffs it to an iron ring on the table. Mathayus nods, and the guard hurries from the room.

Dmitri's first impulse was to snatch his hand away from the guard and punch him in the face, but this wasn't the time or place for that. He was currently in a very serious situation, and despite what this asshole says, if he played his cards right, he was sure that he would be able to walk away from this.
