Edmund Wilson had not properly spent time with Ryan for almost a month. Ruby Murphy was growing more distant from him, even avoiding him. Today, at the company, he inadvertently overheard a subordinate who used to be close to Ruby say that Ruby was planning to take Ryan and leave Capital City.
