Mason Carter felt uneasy for not being scolded. He glanced cautiously at Amelia Clarke and whispered, "Sister, why aren't you scolding me?"
"What should I scold you for?"
Mason lowered his head. "I sneaked a bite of chocolate and didn't listen to you."
Amelia saw his guilty expression and felt both frustrated and amused. "You knew you'd be scolded, yet you still went ahead and sneaked some."
Mason hung his head even lower.
"Alright, your injury is almost healed. From now on, you can go back to the rule of two pieces of chocolate a day, no more. Understood?"
Mason lifted his head, his eyes sparkling, "Really? You're the best, Sister!"
Watching his joy over a piece of chocolate, Amelia felt both gratified and sorrowful. She was glad his happiness was so simple, but sad for the exact same reason.
