Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 I'm Not That Stupid

With leisure, Kris Cooper turned his face, lazily looking at her. "If you feel my service wasn't up to par, we can continue now. I can give you the full set."

"No need for all that trouble!" Vera Wave retracted slightly. "Two-tenths of the price. I'll pay you a total of 120,000, is that okay?"

"I'm not that foolish!"

"Students always get half off. At least you could give me a 50% discount, right?"

Vera Wave blinked her large eyes forcefully, trying hard to squeeze out a few tears. In the end, no tears came, but her eyes were at least red.

Looking at her red eyes, Kris Cooper felt a twinge of confusion.

Last night, he had asked her caregiver. It seemed she was in dire financial straits, a stark contrast to what he knew of her family's circumstances. What had happened?

"Bro, I beg you, just give me half price!" Seeing that Cooper didn't get angry instantly, Vera immediately moved closer and clutched his arm. "Just 150,000. Give me a card number or PayPal or something. As soon as I have the money, I'll definitely pay you back right away. If it's not enough, I'll pay in installments. How does that sound?"

Her eyes, completely transparent, were filled with embarrassment and helplessness.

It was as if she genuinely didn't recognize him at all.

Does she really not remember him?

Kris Cooper glanced down at her. "Write an IOU. Also, give me your ID card, home address, phone number, as well as your school and class information."

"Why should I?"

"What if you run away?"

At that, Vera was rendered speechless.

She rummaged in her backpack, tore a sheet of paper from her notebook, and carefully wrote the IOU. After adding her personal information, she took out her wallet, then hesitated, clutching her ID card. She still needed it for job hunting.

"Oppa, is a student ID okay?"

"No!"

Kris Cooper reached out and snatched her wallet. He fumbled through it, pulled out her ID card, and his gaze swept over the wallet's contents. Only a few red bills remained.

A pang of heartache struck him. How could a child, once so pampered, be reduced to having only loose change in her wallet?

He stuffed the wallet back into her backpack, casually slipping the wad of cash he'd taken from her earlier into an inner compartment of her bag, then pocketed her ID card along with the IOU.

He pulled out his phone to check the missed calls. Tommy Taylor had called him more than ten times. The company's Chairman must be going frantic.

With her ID card, she couldn't run away.

"I have to go now. Remember to pay me back as soon as possible. And if you dare to renege on this debt..."

"No, no, I definitely won't... Shall I see you out?"

After all, the man had helped her out of a tight spot, and Vera Wave still felt a measure of gratitude.

Seeing her expression, Kris Cooper frowned, his tone softening slightly.

"No need. Go see your grandmother!"

Picking up his suit jacket, he strode towards the ward door.

Vera Wave looked up at the man's retreating back and suddenly called out to him.

"Bro..."

Kris Cooper frowned and turned his face.

"I have a name!"

"You... you didn't tell me!"

"Kris Cooper."

"That name... is nice, easy to remember! Conan... Oh, no, Kris Cooper! Thanks for last night. Don't worry, I'll definitely pay you back soon. Also, I'll be sure to introduce friends to your business in the future!"

The first part of her sentence was somewhat agreeable to him, but the latter half made him frown.

"Unnecessary!"

Tossing those words at her, he quickly walked out of the ward.

Pompous! Vera Wave pursed her lips. Why act so aloof? He was out here selling himself, wasn't he?

Thinking of her grandmother, she hurriedly slipped on her shoes, grabbed her bag, and rushed out of the ward.

Outside the ICU ward window, the caregiver, Mrs. Lee, saw her and immediately rose to greet her.

"Miss Wave."

"How's Grandma?" Vera Wave turned her face to look into the ward.

"The surgery went very smoothly. The doctor just came by and said everything is stable. Please don't worry." Mrs. Lee lowered her gaze, somewhat abashed. "Miss Wave, today... is the 8th."

Only then did Vera Wave remember it was the beginning of the month. She hurriedly sat down on a chair and took out her wallet.

Seeing a stack of banknotes in the inner compartment of her backpack, she raised her eyebrows in confusion.

Huh? How could there be money here? Did I stash it here before and forget?

She quickly pulled out the money and counted it. Not a cent more, not a cent less—exactly three thousand.
