"Princess?" His voice was soft, almost tentative.
"Hmm?" Ariel responded, distractedly glancing around as the hallway bustled with students.
"Have you checked your backpack yet? To see the present your mate got for you?" Bernard asked with unusual gentleness.
"Not yet, but I'll do it soon," she replied, falling into step beside him. Other students brushed past them, unaware of the silent tension that lingered around the pair.
