Chapter 6 - Ever changing

The explosion of ice shards sent their mother flying backward, she closed her eyes. Kain and Yuri took advantage of the opening, charging toward her with a fierce battle cry.

Their mother quickly regained her footing, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. "Not bad." she she thought.Kain and Yuri looked directly at their mother, their eyes burning with determination. They both struck her body and sent her flying backwards, she landed on a tree dust rised from the Grom but when the dust settled they saw that they did no damage.

They were done and tired, breathing heavily they couldn't fight any longer.

"That's enough, you passed", she said with a hint of pride and fulfilment in her voice.

Kain and Yuri were both confused, she was still standing, she didn't even seem to be tired, they still didn't beat her.

Then, in a flash of insight, Kain and Yuri understood. They didn't need to defeat their mother; they just needed to work together.

Their mother smiled, a look of pride and admiration on her face. "You two are ready," she said, her voice filled with emotion. "It's time for you this place."

Their mother's words hung in the air, filled with a mix of emotions. Kain and Yuri exchanged a glance, their eyes searching for answers.

"What do you mean?" Kain asked, his voice laced with uncertainty.

Their mother took a deep breath, her eyes gazing into the distance. "It's time for you two to leave the forest and start your journey. You've grown strong enough, and it's time for you to see the world beyond this place."

Yuri's eyes widened with excitement. "Really? We get to leave?"

Their mother nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "Yes, really. But you'll need to be careful and rely on each other."

Kain's expression turned serious, his eyes narrowing in thought. "We will, Mother. We'll be careful."

The next few days were a blur of activity as their mother taught them everything she could about the world beyond the forest. She showed them maps, explaining the different regions. She taught them about the various magical creatures that roamed the land, and how to defend themselves against those that might be hostile. Kain and Yuri soaked up the knowledge like sponges, their minds expanding with the sheer scope of what they were learning. As the days passed, they grew more confident, their excitement building as they prepared to embark on their journey.

Finally, the day arrived. Their mother stood before them, a small bag slung over her shoulder. She gave it to Yuri. Kain already had a bag it was bigger and filled with more equipment and essentials. They were both wearing hooded coats, a pair of boots and winter pants. Their mother provided with all the they need to survive.

"It's time," she said, her voice firm but laced with emotion. "You two are ready. Remember everything I've taught you, and always stick together."

Kain and Yuri nodded, their eyes shining with determination. They hugged their mother tightly, feeling a mix of emotions as they said their goodbyes.

As they stood back, their mother handed them each a small pouch containing a few gold coins and a map.

"This will help you on your journey," she said, her eyes smiling. "Now, go. The world is waiting for you."

With one last look at their mother, Kain and Yuri turned and walked away, their hearts filled with excitement as they embarked on their journey.

As they disappeared into the trees, their mother watched them go, a sense of pride and sadness washing over her. She knew that she had done everything she could to prepare them for the world, but she also knew that they would face dangers that she couldn't even imagine.

With a sigh, she turned and walked back to her cabin, her heart heavy with the knowledge that she might never see her sons again. But she also knew that she had given them the greatest gift she could: the gift of freedom, and the chance to forge their own paths in the world. And with that thought, she smiled, her heart filled with hope and pride for the two young men who had just set out on their journey.

As they emerged from the forest, Kain and Yuri were met with a blast of scorching hot air that seemed to suck the breath right out of their lungs. They squinted in the bright sunlight, their eyes adjusting slowly to the harsh glare.

Before them stretched a vast expanse of sand, dunes rising and falling like waves on a golden sea. The air was thick with the scent of sand and rock, and the only sounds were the distant howls of wind and the soft crunch of sand beneath their feet.

Yuri was perplexed, smiling at the new site he had never seen before. His awe couldn't be measured, his heart was beating with excitement and was jumping in the air.

"Kain look, the horizon is red and filled with sand isn't that amazing?", Yuri said

But for Kain it was what was behind him that made his heart skip a beat. He turned to look back, expecting to see the familiar trees of their forest home. But instead, there was nothing. No trees, no cabin, no sign of life whatsoever. Just a vast, empty expanse of sand that seemed to stretch on forever.

Kain's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with confusion. "What...what just happened?" he stuttered.

Yuri, "What are talking about?," he said.

Yuri turned around, his eyes widened in shock. They stood there in stunned silence, their minds reeling with the implications of what they were seeing. Their home, the only home they had ever known, was gone. Vanished into thin air.

Kain thought that even if they left they're home, they would always fin they're way back if they ever needed to. But it's gone and he had no idea what happened. As the reality of their situation began to sink in, Kain's face set in a determined expression. "We need to keep moving," he said, his voice firm. "We can't stay here."

Yuri nodded, still looking a bit dazed. "Yeah...yeah, you're right."

Together, they turned to face the desert, their eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of life or shelter. The sun beat down on them, relentless in its intensity, but they stood tall, their spirits unbroken.

They took their first steps into the unknown, the sand swirling around their feet like a golden mist. And as they walked, the desert seemed to stretch out before them like an endless sea, full of secrets and dangers waiting to be discovered.
