Chapter 448 - Chapter 448: Ancient Monster

"Haaa... To think after all those years, she managed to be with such a handsome man and brought you into existence, you lovable silly~!" Faya would comment as she pinched and squished around Harvard's cheeks, much to the boy's annoyance. The others that listened to such a tale would immediately be concerned, with Envy even closing the book and trying to make a response at how much of a lunatic Limosa was, but Solomon merely stopped him before he asked that very question.

"Sooooo... She was around here before. That what I'm hearing?" The Biblical Sorcerer asked, making Faya stop her teasing assault.

"Hmm? Oh! Yeah, I guess you can say she was. We mainly traveled from Kingdom to Kingdom, and this little circle was one of the few stops we made. It was actually where we fought that creature in the night, in fact!"

"What even was it, anyway?"

"Not sure... Folks near our site, I think it was Kagoma, were telling us about a witch that lived there. Glass eyes, plastic skin. Heebie Jeebies, if you ask me. Especially when it was being burned alive and stomped on." Harvard's eyes widened upon hearing such a word, quickly looking through his cards, puzzling the boys. Tsukiya's ears perked up when Faya said such a place.

"You know about my home?! Waow Waow! You must be really smart! Dad's place is usually kept secret to everyone, even when talking to other kingdoms about him!" She'd shout, her voice of surprise when she got off the telescope and went towards the 'Goddess.' Faya merely laughed as she'd pull open a drawer, showing all sorts of maps, dotted lines across different paths. A Trader, and one that has mapped out each and every part of the Omega's Circle.

"There was a few folks walking around and trying to sell their wares. I had to take it upon myself and pass those maps around to ensure they know where to go. Omega's Circle is pretty packed with all those kingdoms in the ring."

"Ooooh! How did you do that, though? From what I got by Flourence, you guys don't usually go out much, right?"

"Arthur was the one to help out with that, actually! He's one of the few that can come in and out of Candartha without having to worry about his magic changing. I could do it myself, but..." Her words lingered when she recognized the responsibility she holds, moving a few bricks around to let her gaze down at the candy-like city below. She'd sigh as she watched the many citizens be quick on patching the walls and roof, using chocolate and crackers as personal boards and superglue, as well as the repairs they try to make on the buildings that were damaged by Harvard's escapades. Tsukiya would notice her attachment, tilting her head, but petting her shoulder nonetheless. The Kitsune knew fully well what her purpose was.

"Glass eyes and Plastic skin, right?" Harvard interrupted, quick on finding a monster and walking up to the two, his legs properly able to function again after a while, albeit weakly, showing its art to them: Construct, the puppet with strings across her body, a singular eye staring down through the mask. Two other monsters were on his other hand, Alice and Annie, A proper doll, and a figure in a massive white cloth, a plush-like head on top, and chains to tether to her sharp hands. "...I think Mama may have told me about that monster when I was little." He'd explain, as he'd try to look through the books, using the shelves for stability, quickly finding one and pulling it out. "Yeah! This one! She read it to me as a bedtime story on Halloween when I was younger." Everyone was quick on checking over, seeing its cover.

"The New Mother."

"She told me I was crying because I was worried I was gonna lose Mama if I ever complained. Had to give me a different story and sing a lullaby to calm me down a bit. Though... the way you described it, it did felt just as similar."

Faya's eyes widened a bit as she crouched down, looking at the cards. "Did she actually told you about that monster?" she asked.

"Only when I summoned Construct to help out. She kept calling it a different name though and annoyed it to no end."

"That name being...?"

The boy went quiet, as he can recall the name being from the book itself, a type of caster known to cause harm when it comes to magic. A sorceress that would weave spells like thread and ensure those that were attached become bound with its curse. A witch whom people feared during the Dark Ages. "She calls Construct a.... Beldam."

The boys eyes widened, with Solomon showing deep concern. "Faya? Was that the name of the monster that tried to attack you?" Only a nod was given back when Solomon asked his question.

"I'm a bit lost here... What exactly is a Beldam?" Zazel asked, to which Stolas nodded to get his own answer out of it.

"A Monster that eats Kids. A Monster that boils them alive and uses whatever remained for their craft, while they chow at bone. Your bodily fluids and skin can be used for paint or fabric to create. Your organs can be used to make whatever they make alive. If Harvard's Mom actually encountered that..."

Silence befell on the area, the boys disturbed at knowing Harvard may have an issue ahead of him if he faces such a witch during their travels. Faya took notice of such concerns and immediately broke up such quiet, a nudge to the group. "Hey! Don't worry. Since he's with all of us, I'm sure we can take on some dingy witch any day, don't we? It's going to get dark soon, and I think my little friends may need some of your help. After all..." She'd pause before giving Harvard a noogie, prompting him to push back. "THIS lil' fella already did so much on the little house we have! Naughty, naughty child!" A tease, before she trails her covered sweater over to tickle the boy, letting not only Harvard to get back such spirits, but also for the children to be calmed down.

At least she was right on such an assumption.
