The sun dipped low over the village.
Lanterns had been hung all along the center courtyard where the performances would take place.
The villagers gathered around in eager clusters, while drones hovered above to capture the live broadcast.
Fu Xing stood at the center of the courtyard with his mic, beaming as the livestream counter soared.
"Ladies and gentlemen watching from home," he said, voice rich with excitement, "our contestants have worked hard with local musicians to reinterpret traditional pieces. Tonight, you'll vote for your favorite pair's performance!"
The chat exploded instantly:
"Let's go!!"
"Waiting for CEO Yang and Xia Lihua!"
"I'm excited for Sun Zhengyi and Xiao Lusi!"
"Quan Kunjie! Quan Kunjie! Quan Kunjie!"
Fu Xing raised a hand. "Let's begin with Sun Zhengyi and Xiao Lusi!"
The pair smiled nervously. Behind them stood a young villager with a hulusi (gourd flute).
They bowed politely.
The music began—soft, warm, and airy.
