CHAPTER START---

Six weeks after becoming S-Class, Oberon is floating in the cool herbal spring under the warm evening sun on Tenrojima Island. Mavis sits on a nearby rock, idly observing him as he's reading a Grimoire that's floating above him with Gravity Magic.

He focuses on the words and diagrams, etching them into his mind before forming floating Light Magic runes beside him, recording his thought process as he translates the new Magic into a formula.

Mavis recognizes some of the symbols as her creations, but doesn't think much of it, used to this after he's spent the past six weeks training here.

"How many more Magics do you plan to learn before heading back?" Mavis asks.

"Just a few more. Then I can move on to the Gate Keys. I'm finally healed up, so I don't have to worry about them draining me. I heard they take a lot of Magic Energy."

"Since when do you have to worry about Magic Energy?"

"I'm being cautious. What if I have to fight them to tame them? Are you going to help me?"

Mavis frowns. "I'm giving you a training ground rich with Ethernano for you to recover Magic Energy faster. Is that not enough?"

"It's plenty, thank you, Master Mavis."

Oberon spends a few more minutes adjusting his formula, then, with a wave of his hand, forms a Magic Circle in his palm. Focusing his Magic Energy on the small blue Magic Circle, he forms a single ice cube in his palm, taking a deep breath afterward.

"Huffing and puffing after making a little ice cube?" Mavis giggles.

Oberon casually tosses it at her, and the ice cube passes through her body.

"Rude."

"Ice Make Magic is super tough for me. Well, all elemental Magics are. Quit being mean about it."

"Then why focus so hard on them?"

"Because Ice Make Magic and Purple Flare passively give me a higher tolerance for heat and cold. Haven't you noticed I'm not as sweaty on this island since the first week?"

She shrugs. "I assumed you just got over the heat."

Oberon ignores her, already focused on copying the formula into his personal journal. "I wish there was a Magic to do this part for me," he mutters.

"Like Book Make Magic?"

Oberon stops and looks over at her. "That's a thing?"

"There are lots of Maker Magics. If I recall correctly, Makarov's friend Bob had it. But it's a pretty tough one since your thoughts need to be super organized. But I think he has something for that part too."

Oberon frowns. "I'm already on my third journal. I really need to learn that Magic."

"When are you going to give my Magics another shot?" She asks. "You could at least learn those before going to another guild and learning from their master."

Oberon continues his notes. "Fairy Law's targeting is too intricate for me to use at the moment. Fairy Sphere requires the emotional resonance of multiple people to amplify it like a Unison Raid, so it's not a solo spell. And Fairy Glitter will be easier after I learn some Celestial Spirit Magic.

Your spells are really powerful. Like stupidly powerful. I'm surprised the Magic Council hasn't raided Fairy Tail for them by now. Fairy Law is the ultimate judgement spell. Fairy Sphere is a perfect defense against any and all phenomena, and Fairy Glitter is absolute destruction Magic.

With these three, I'll be a lot stronger, yeah, but learning them takes way too long. And right now, I need to be ready for S-Class Jobs, and those won't always include hitting really hard. Not to mention they don't do anything that's not a big finishing move."

"I see. It's a good approach, trying to pull from as many places as possible instead of becoming reliant on my Magics," Mavis pouts. "Still sucks that you learned other Magics before mine."

"Your Magics are just too complex to learn quickly, and I want the non-combat help from others…"

They continue talking until the sun begins to set, at which point Oberon's Communication Lacrima chimes from his back beside the spring. Oberon immediately floats it over to him, now sitting atop the water with Mavis floating beside him.

"Oberon, how have you been?"

"Pretty good. I learned a few Magics," Oberon says. "Oh, can you help me get in touch with your friend Bob? Master Mavis says he might have Book Make Magic."

"Bob?" Makarov rubs his chin. "Well, we'll be working together more in the future, so you might as well meet him before that. Sure, you can head over there after your Job."

"Job?" Oberon's eyes widen as a wave of Gravity Magic ripples across the gently glowing spring. "Did a good S-Class Job finally come in for me?"

"I think it's perfect for you. You'll have to go to an island between Fiore and Caelum and rid it of some monsters. A Gruumsh Mage and her spawn have taken over the island, and they need someone to liberate it."

"Alright, send me the location and any information I need. I know a boat captain who can probably come get me close to Tenroujima, that way I don't have to fly all the way back to Hargeon."

"Alright, just please be careful."

"I always am, Master."

After writing the information into his Job journal, Oberon steps out of the spring and rifles through his bag, pulling out a Storage Card and withdrawing a set of Gate Keys.

"Ohh finally!" Mavis cheers beside him. "I've never seen a Celestial Spirit before!"

"That makes two of us," Oberon looks at the keys, not sure which to use first. "From what I've read, I pour enough Magic Energy into them and they appear. Then we make some kind of contract…"

"Like a creepy blood contract?"

Oberon shrugs. "Only one way to find out." He grabs one of the two Silver Keys, leaving the other and both Golden Keys in his left hand.

"Alright, Dorado the swordfish, come out," he flows some Magic Energy into the key, slowly raising the amount for a while, but nothing happens. "Is it because my Magic Energy doesn't work with Invasive Magics?"

Mavis steps closer and stares at the key. "No, your Magic reached it. But it is a Gate Key, and gates can open from both sides, right?"

"So it just doesn't like me?"

"Or where it's being summoned," she gestures to the spring. "It is a fish after all."

"Ah, right," Oberon walks to the edge of the pond and dips half the key into the water. "Dorado?"

As he pours barely any Magic Energy into the key, the silver key radiates bright white light, and a glowing 10m -30ft- long swordfish appears in the water. Its scales are thick and hardened, the fins are like blades, and the nose is sharper than any spear. The entire body is bright blue with a thin metallic sheen.

"Wow!" Oberon and Mavis float forward to get a closer look.

"Can it understand you?" she asks.

"How would I know?" Oberon steps onto the water as it floats motionless below him. "Can you understand me?"

To his surprise, the giant fish nods, bobbing its head slightly.

"Can you talk?"

Its head moves side to side.

"Oh. Um, so can I summon you if I need help, assuming there is water nearby, of course?"

Dorado nods, and Oberon smiles in response.

"Alright, so, is the contract complete now?"

Dorado nods, and Oberon awkwardly says goodbye before closing the gate.

"Are the others like that?" Mavis asks. "Ares is a 'The Ram', so it's probably some kind of giant fluffy sheep."

"Yeah, but Virgo is 'The Maiden'. What is that supposed to mean?"

"I'm more curious about Caelum. What does 'The Chisel' even mean?"

"It shares the same name as the country, and they're famous for making stuff, maybe it's related."

"You should try Virgo next. Hopefully that one can talk and translate for the others."

"Good idea," he stores Dorado's Gate Key back into the card as they float over to a small clearing nearby. They land in the clearing, and he holds Virgo's golden key tightly. "Please come out."

Oberon's Magic Energy makes the key shine with radiant golden light, illuminating the clearing as a petite woman wearing black high heels, black stockings, a grey pencil skirt, white button-up shirt, and a grey suit blazer appears. With her long pink hair in a ponytail tied off with a black ribbon hosting a Fairy Tail Emblem. As well as a Fairy Tail Emblem on her pink tie.

"Hello, Sir Oberon," she says, summoning a clipboard with a Fairy Tail Emblem on the back of it. "How may I help you?"

Mavis and Oberon stare at Virgo for nearly a minute before he speaks. "Are you…a Celestial Spirit?"

"Of course I am, you summoned me."

"But the last one was a giant fish. How are you a lady?"

"We Celestial Spirits take forms depending on a few factors. The Magic Energy of our summoner is the main factor, with the personality of our summoner being a secondary factor. Dorado is normally a much smaller swordfish, but due to your Magic Energy reserves, he grew much larger. Although he had to limit his size to avoid damaging the pool you summoned him in.

In my case, the change is less cosmetic and more apparent in my Earth Magic and its applications. However, my physical body is much more capable thanks to your absurd Magic Energy. And speaking of that, I must say. We're all in agreement that you have by far the most Magic Energy of any Wizards to have touched our Gate Keys."

"Thank you," Oberon says. "Does that mean you all talk to each other?"

"The moment any Wizard touches a Gate Key, we connect with them, even if they don't have Celestial Spirit Magic to summon us. But in your case, it's a bit different. You are out of reach unless we have permission to access your Magic Energy, which is unique, from what I understand.

However, time flows differently between the Celestial Spirit world and this world. In the time it took you to fly over to this clearing, Dorado was able to tell us all about what he learned from you. And boast about his new, more powerful form thanks to your Magic Energy reserves."

"I see. Can I go to that other world?"

"Humans are forbidden. And even if you were allowed by the Celestial Spirit King, there is no air in that world to sustain you."

"What about me?" Mavis asks. "I'm a ghost!"

"No," Virgo says after barely glancing at her. "However, we understand Sir Oberon wishes to keep your existence secret. And rest assured, Celestial Spirits are forbidden from revealing anything their master doesn't desire them speaking of. All your secrets are safe with us, even after we pass to a new holder."

"That's a relief," Oberon says. "Does the Celestial Spirit King have a Gate Key?"

"No."

"Can he be summoned?"

"..."

"Ah, so there is a way."

"I never said that," she hands him the clipboard. "These are our contracts. I've taken the liberty of recording them for you since Caelum and Dorado cannot speak. And Aries is shy. However, I do recommend you summon them to officially make the contract."

Oberon reads the single page multiple times, surprised at how simple the rules are. "Is there anything else I should know?"

"After we become familiar with our new forms, we'll be able to communicate telepathically or empathically. As well as open the gate from our end to assist when needed. Normally, we'd use our own Magic Energy for that, however, since you have so much, it may be better to use yours. Otherwise, our time and capabilities would be far more limited."

"This Magic really is convenient," Mavis says. "Summon the others. It's been so long since I've had a bunch of people to talk to!"

Oberon shrugs and holds up Caelum and Aries's gate keys, flowing Magic Energy into them and summoning them to stand alongside Virgo…
