CHAPTER START---
"Captain!"
Omer rolls out of his bunk and leaps to his feet, ignoring the light of sunrise pouring into his quarters as he grabs his sword and slids on his boots.
Pulling on a coat over his t-shirt and combat pants he rushes through the main kitchen area of the ship, seeing his wife already cooking, her back to the bubbling pot while aiming a Magic Rifle at the door.
"Another ship?" Omer asks, and the woman shakes her head, stilling keeping her aim on the door.
She raises her rifle slightly as he opens the door and steps outside, seeing his crew on the main deck. A group of men and women, weapons on the floor as the hug the mast, railing, and wrap themselves in rope, trembling and scared out of their minds.
"What the hell is going on?" he asks, looking at his crew for any sign of injury, seeing them untouched. "Answer me?!"
One of the women manages to open her eyes, removing her hand fron the railing before her courage breaks and she holds it even tighter. "Look up," her shaky voice confuses Captain Omer.
The man grits his teeth, flowing Magic Energy into his blade, causing a small blue Magic Cicrle to appear on the top as he looks up. "These damn bir—"
He leaps backward and hugs the doorframe, surprising his wife as the blade clatters against the wood of the main deck. "Grab onto something!" he orders.
The woman braces herself against the sink, expecting a rogue wave or Magic Beast to rock the ship, but everything remained steady. Even the boiling soup on the stove was unbothered as she cast a confused glance at her husband.
"What's out there?"
"Look out the window," the man says, and she does exactly that.
"Oh gods!" she screams and drops to the floor, placing her back against the skin and anchoring herself better. "What happened? Take us back down!"
"I'm working on that!" the mans says as he looks up, still clutching the doorframe for dear life. "What happened?"
Nobody responds, all sharing the confusing while the man looks up at the ocean above. His sense of orientation was perfectly fine, betraying his mind and eyes while looking at the calm ocean above them. There was a single boat, less than half the size of their ship, but from over a thousand feet away he couldn't make out enough details. Nor could he see the flag from this angle.
The man looks at his terrified crew and takes a deep breath, working up the nerve to let go of the doorframe. He takes a few shaky steps forward and grabs his sword, focusing on his sense of orientation, fighting through the anxiety of this situation.
'Is something keeping us in the sky? There must be a reason, but fighting could make us fall. Maybe if I use enought Magic Energy I can catch us,' he thinks. 'But we'd have to jump from the ship. And I ne—'
"Hi."
The man nearly jumps out of his own skin, strumbling away till his back is against the opposite railing and pointing his blade at Oberon, who is casually standing on the side of the ship.
Oberon looks down, between his feet, confusing the man's sense of orientation even more as he walks over from the side of the ship and seamlessly transitions to standing on the deck.
"Sorry I didn't answer earlier," Obeorn says while securing his Storage Card back into the holster, adjusting his S-Class Coat as he does so. "My friend Alana really like seashells and your boat has some pretty cool stuff attached to the—"
"Who are you? What do you want? Why are you doing this?"
"Oh, right. I'm Oberon," he says while politely smiling at the man, turning to show off the Fairy Tail emblem at the back of his coat. "From Fairy Tail."
"Fairy Tail. Yeah, I've heard of you. Why are you all the way out here? What did we ever do to you?"
"Well, you're pirates, so I figured I'd come check out your treasure."
"So…you aren't going to kill us?"
"What?! Now way, I don't want to kill anyone. Just show me what cool Magic stuff you guys have."
It takes a moment for the crew to process what was happening, and how awful their luck truly was. "So, you're just here for the Magic Items?"
"Why else would I be here?"
"Oh…are you seriously just a kid?" Captain Omer asks.
"I'm not a kid!" Oberon raises his voice, scaring them. "I turned nine last month. Plus I'm S-Class. Even now I'm on a super awesome S-Class Job. Can a kid do that?"
The man decides not to respond while Oberon pokes his tongue out at him. "I'm the only Mage on his crew. A Holder type. My sword has Water Magic, which keeps us safer while we transport cargo between countries. And my boots, they let me walk on water."
"Ugh. I can already do both those things. What about treasure?"
"Uh, we have Safron."
"What, like the spice?"
"It's worth more than gold on the southern isles. We spend all our money on Safron and sell it for more down south."
"That's so lame."
"Wait!" the man desperately tries to keep Oberon interested in not dropping them. "We also have a chest that's locked up tight, we're supposed to transport it for our fleet captain. But I don't know what's in it, I swear."
A mischevious smile splits Oberon's face. "A mystery package. Ok, let's open it!"
"Right, well, follow me. But it may have some kind of trap in it."
"We'll be alright," Oberon says as he walks past the man, into the main cabin area. He sees the woman sitting on the floor and the Magic Rifle beside her, giving a polite smile and wave. "Hi, good morning."
The woman nervously nods as Captain Omer enters behind Oberon.
The man looks between the boy's back and his sword, then sheathes the weapon on his belt. 'He didn't even take my sword. Well, we're all his hostage at the moment so even if I were willing to hurt a child, I sure as hell can't risk pissing him off now.'
"It's this way," Captain Omer says as he walks past Oberon.
The boy takes out his Kamera and photographs himself a couple times as the move down a set of stairs into the dry and cold storeroom below the kitchen area. "Can't believe I'm on a real pirate ship. Laxus is going to be so jealous…"
They arrive at a large chest with a intricate lock. The top of the chest is painted with the same symbol as this ship, the infamous emblem of this pirate fleet.
"As I said, I can't open it. Only the captain has a key, and we're supposed to be taking it down there for him."
Oberon taps his chin as he kneels in front of the chest, staring at the lock. "I have an idea."
He creates a small sphere of water in his right hand, then solidifies it into a jelly-like consistency, then changes the structure and viscosity to better match that of clay or thick mud. Oberon then presses it into the lock, allowing the water to flow and fill the lock, and moves tendrils of water around until he hears pins clicking into place. After a few minutes he turns his hand and with a loud click the chest pops open.
"Did you pick the lock with Water Magic?'
"Nah. I couldn't tell what was going on in there, so I just broke it," he giggles and opens the chest.
The man's eyes widen, thoughts of him, his ship, his wife, and his crew falling to the ocean below flashing in his mind as dozen poision darts spring toward Oberon's chest.
They crash into his invisible Cosmic Barrier and clatter to the floor, and the boy doesn't even glace at the darts while opening the chest full.
"What's this junk?" Oberon removes a ornate bottle of wine from the chest, holding it up to see strange gems floating within.
"Wow! That's Fire Blood Wine."
"Ew!"
"It's not made from blood, but it supposedly makes you feel like your blood is replaced with fire. It's insanely strong. The boss must be going south to celebrate something big."
"Well, that's gross. But I bet Gildarts and Macao would love it, Master Makarov and Wakaba too. I'm keeping this."
"You won't get any arguments from me," the man says as Oberon stores the bottle in a Storage Card. "You'll let us go without hurting us, right?"
"Yeah, you guys are pretty boring…"
Minutes later Oberon hovers down the ocean, bringing the pirate ship with him and gently orienting it and placing it back onto the ocean. He gives it a gentle push away from Captain Carit's ship before landing on her deck.
"Had fun?" she asks.
"Nah, they were boring. All they had was Safron."
"Safron! Did you take it?"
"Uh…did you want it?"
The woman glares at him, then sighs and relents. "One thing at a time I suppose. We're close to the island, you should get ready to dock in a few hours."
"Gruumish are dangerous so we shouldn't dock. I'll just fly to the island and handle the Job."
"Oh no, I want to see exactly how you fight."
"Why?"
"Becuase you like renting my yacht, and sometimes I could use more muscle. We're smugglers, not soldiers after all."
"If you want to work together you'll have to hire me through Fairy Tail."
"Even if it was for some interesting Magic Items?"
Oberon considers it for a moment, then gives her a sly smile. "Well, it depends on the items…"
