Vivian had her full attention on the Southern Zone. As the announcer for Pokémon Contests in the Hoenn region, she had personally witnessed Terrance win the championship. A year had passed since Terrance became a Top Coordinator, and Vivian had heard about everything that had happened to him since. She held high hopes for this talented Coordinator.
So, the moment Beautifly began to show its skills, she immediately made Beautifly's performance the focus of her commentary. She had a subtle feeling—this might be the turning point of the entire event!
"It has begun!!"
At that moment, the three announcers shouted in unison. Under the control of the "flying devices," the Flying-type Pokémon from all four directions arrived at the central battlefield almost simultaneously. By now, the number of Flying-type Pokémon on the field had been reduced to ninety-eight.
Four zones, totaling ninety-eight Pokémon.
These ninety-eight Pokémon were all elites that successfully emerged from over a thousand contenders. Each one was undeniably a flying master. The dazzling variety of flying styles and flying maneuvers turned the skies above the Sootopolis Outer Sea into a grand stage for Flying-type Pokémon to perform.
"Not bad at all." Terrance had noticed Chisana's Crobat. Though it had barely made it, it still managed to break through and reach this point.
This was closely related to the fact that Chisana's main focus in training Crobat had been on its "Supersonic" move. In such a chaotic setting, this move gave Crobat a huge advantage.
"Mr. Terrance... Aren't you nervous?"
Assistant Sharan looked at Terrance's seemingly unchanged expression and asked with confusion.
She knew the Contest Committee had high expectations for Terrance. When it came to assigning assistants by the Contest Committee, not every Top Coordinator received such treatment.
As far as she knew, among the dozen or so Top Coordinators participating in this festival, only three had such a privilege.
Based on what had just transpired, Beautifly was indeed very eye-catching. However... among the ninety-eight Pokémon that reached this point, each one had also showcased impressive flying skills.
That wasn't something exclusive to Beautifly. Every Flying-type Pokémon that had made it this far was formidable in its own right. Otherwise, they wouldn't have stood out among thousands of others.
This situation could be described as there being formidable enemies as many as clouds. Yet Terrance remained calm. Sharan glanced over at Chisana whose Pokemon had also reached the center. At that moment, his forehead... was already drenched in sweat, his face tense with nerves.
"It's not time to be nervous yet," Terrance said as he took a gulp of water.
Right now, Beautifly hadn't even shown its full strength before he went to Alola. So why should he be nervous?
Terrance knew very well… how Beautifly has integrated Totem Vikavolt's skills to comprehend terrifying flying maneuvers.
In the Eastern Zone, among the crowd, a young man watched the gathering Pokémon on the screen with great interest. His gaze stopped on a single Beautifly.
"As expected, it showed up. Hah—Aerodactyl's greatest competitor."
Albus stood with his arms crossed. In the skies of the Eastern Zone, his Aerodactyl reigned as the monarch!
Unrivaled—breaking out with overwhelming dominance, taking first place!
In the Western Zone, Fantina's Drifblim had done the same, breaking out with absolute dominance as well. Compared to these two zones, the Southern Zone—where Terrance was—seemed much less imposing. Though Beautifly's performance had been eye-catching, there were quite a few others also ranking among the top contenders.
Terrance had noticed this too. But Beautifly was different from Aerodactyl and Drifblim—it didn't compare to them in terms of innate species. If Terrance and Beautifly were to take the same bold and unrestrained approach as Albus and Fantina, there was a major concern: could Beautifly's stamina even hold up?
In the Northern Zone, two young Gym Leaders specializing in Flying-type Pokémon were locked in a fierce contest. Their Altaria and Pidgeot had been competing nonstop since the beginning. What impressed both spectators and others the most was… these two Pokémon have never once been troubled by the flying devices. Instead, countless other Flying-type Pokémon were mercilessly eliminated for getting in the way of their duel...
By this point, the audience had begun analyzing the Pokémon with winning potential.
Clearly, in the Eastern Zone, the mysterious Trainer's Aerodactyl was quite powerful—no Flying-type Pokémon had been able to match it so far. It had even eliminated a Salamence during the process, showcasing its dominance.
In the Western Zone, Top Coordinator Fantina's Drifblim stood out not with brute force like Aerodactyl, but with an eerie style. Thanks to Drifblim's Ghost type, its movements were unpredictable, making it hard to get a read on.
From the Southern Zone... and the Northern Zone...
Those watching the first event had each chosen their favorites from among the participating Pokémon. Even those whose Pokémon had already been eliminated continued watching the remaining Pokemon attentively, eager to learn from the dazzling array of techniques on display.
Boom!!
From all four directions, around twenty Flying-type Pokémon from each zone flew toward the center at once. At the same time, the number of flying devices in the sky surged to an enormous number—all the flying devices, following the event's progression, had now gathered here!
If the beginning could be called "easy mode," and what followed was "hard mode," then now—for the remaining Flying-type Pokémon—it had become a hell-level challenge.
"This... can we even continue?"
Chisana cried out, clutching his head as he looked at the countless flying devices. Just imagining the scale of the beams they were about to fire made him shudder in fear.
"Crobat, we've made it this far—please hang in there. I believe in you."
With this many flying devices, the Trainers of the remaining Flying-type Pokémon could think of one term: indiscriminate assault.
The beams that were about to fire wouldn't be much different from large-scale area-of-effect weaponry. The only real difference was that their destructive power was limited to simply weakening the Pokémon.
The four sides met, with the Pokémon hundreds of meters away from the constantly drifting "victory item" at the center...
At that moment, all the Flying-type Pokémon went wild—they burst forward at top speed, desperate to snatch the victory item before the flying devices unleashed their indiscriminate attacks.
Victory was now only a few hundred meters away.
Beautifly… also picked up its speed. Even knowing that the area ahead would be the most densely attacked, it didn't dare fall behind the main group.
And the moment the Pokémon moved toward the victory item—the flying devices also activated!
"Whoosh—whoosh—!"
The wind howled as nearly a hundred Pokémon showcased their unique skills. Air currents turned violent within the fierce winds as the shockwaves lashed through the sky like furious whips. The attacks from the flying devices resembled a sudden torrential downpour crashing down in the fierce winds, weaving the space into a continuous net of rain.
Seeing this scene, countless spectators rubbed their eyes in disbelief.
At this moment, fewer than ten Pokémon suddenly revealed incredible skills in the middle of flying.
