In the Southern Zone, aside from a few Pokémon flying in their own uniquely distinctive styles, most Flying-type Pokémon were still flying in a more conventional manner.
However, the fact that they hadn't been eliminated immediately showed that their fundamentals were quite solid, and even their reflexes were outstanding.
"Mr. Terrance, aren't you watching the livestream?"
Assistant Sharan looked at Terrance in confusion. At this moment, not only was Terrance not paying attention to Beautifly's situation, but he had instead picked up the event manual and was reading it with great interest.
"It's too chaotic," Terrance said.
"What do you mean..." Sharan asked, puzzled.
Terrance slowly explained, "Right now, there are still too many Pokémon. The scene is far too chaotic. As long as a Pokémon has even a little bit of skill, it can make use of the other Pokémon to advance successfully..."
"This phase has little suspense. We need to wait until the elites from each zone gather into a single area, when all the flying devices converge together... That will be the true decisive moment."
"And also... compared to that, an even more brutal phase—the fight for the victory item—will be worth paying more attention to."
Looking over the introduction to this Flying-type event, Terrance stroked his chin, unsure how to judge the person who designed this event, but overall, this event should be advantageous to Coordinators, right?
After all, it was rare for Trainers to focus on flying techniques. However, as long as a Trainer was outstanding, their performance would still be just as impressive.
Without paying attention to the Southern Zone, Terrance instead turned his gaze to the other zones.
In the east, an Aerodactyl was flying in the most ferocious manner, like a top predator, radiating a bloodthirsty aura.
The appearance of this Aerodactyl stirred up heated discussion among the spectators. The emergence of an ancient overlord, the prehistoric Pokémon Aerodactyl, pushed the atmosphere in the Eastern Zone to the peak.
In the Western Zone, a Drifblim was flying ahead of all the other Pokémon. It single-handedly faced the majority of light beam attacks but still handled them with ease, without suffering any real threat. Its mastery of Phantom Force was exquisite, perfectly utilizing the alternate dimensions unique to the Ghost-type. Thanks to it attracting most of the flying devices' attention, the Western Zone had the fewest Flying-type Pokémon eliminated.
In the Northern Zone, a Pidgeot and an Altaria were locked in fierce combat, ignoring all the other Flying-type Pokémon and disregarding all the flying devices. From beginning to end, their scuffle never ceased. Yet their strength left all other contestants in the same zone feeling embarrassed. Such reckless behavior surprisingly continued for a long time, and even after many Pokémon had been eliminated, they were still fiercely fighting each other, advancing in such a reckless manner.
"What's the background of that Aerodactyl?"
"Miss Fantina's Drifblim is certainly impressive, but I wonder how it would compare to Elite Four Phoebe's Drifblim."
"Sigh, how did Falkner from the Violet Gym and Winona from the Fortree Gym end up facing each other? How did those two end up clashing... Well, whatever, since they're both here representing Trainers, a bit of chaos is probably better anyway."
The Contest Committee' staff who were closely following the first event could accurately identify the background of the Pokémon that were attracting attention...
At this point, a lot of time had already passed, and the Pokémon from the four major zones were all flying swiftly toward the central area. The moment when they would meet was already close at hand.
"The major elimination round is about to begin."
The staff who understood the workings of the flying devices all fixed their eyes on the livestream screen. During this phase... the attack mechanisms of the flying devices were about to change!
Someone glanced at the time and silently began to count down in their heart...
The instant the countdown ended—
Countless people pointed at the livestream screen, unable to believe their eyes.
Originally, each flying device was firing their beams at fixed intervals, with a set amount of time between each shot. But suddenly, every flying device unlocked a rapid-fire mode, and the attack frequency increased dramatically.
Whoosh—
In the Southern Zone where Beautifly was competing, most of the Pokémon realized something was wrong. The rain of light descending from the sky was like a deadly barrage. Earlier, if one was careful enough, it had still been possible to dodge, but now, with each volley of beams, a certain number of Pokémon would inevitably be eliminated!
"The difficulty has increased again," Terrance said, closing the event manual. To be honest, he had already anticipated this outcome.
At this point, simply minding one's own business was no longer enough to ensure safe flying.
After studying the key points of this event for a long time, Terrance judged that by the time the battle at the center began, there would probably be no more than twenty Pokémon left.
In other words, before the four zones met, the number of Pokémon from all four zones would be reduced to fewer than one hundred.
Then, after suffering through an even more brutal concentrated attack from the flying devices when they met, the real critical phase—the battle at center —would begin.
"This is getting interesting. From several thousand down to fewer than a hundred? A one-in-a-hundred chance," Terrance muttered, glancing at Beautifly's position — such a tiny figure, and yet this little butterfly had made it this far against all odds.
In the Southern Zone, facing the rain of beams, countless Flying-type Pokémon could no longer stay put. This kind of dense attack was no longer something one could simply dodge to stay safe.
The only option was to use other Pokémon as shields to block the beams!
"Better them than me..." Terrance muttered.
The next moment, Beautifly, with raging winds swirling around its body, was the first among all the Pokémon in the Southern Zone to boldly make a decision.
Violent air currents: Quiver Dance!
Until now, Beautifly hadn't even used a fraction of its strength.
How could it possibly be willing to stay low-profile forever?
A silver-white storm erupted instantly. This storm was unimaginably fierce, radiating an intense sense of pressure like a hurricane. Yet the silver hurricane was skillfully controlled, and by harnessing the air currents stirred up by the surrounding Flying-type Pokémon's flight, it became more and more condensed, growing stronger and stronger. In the midst of the storm, Beautifly looked as if it was clad in a suit of silver armor, gracefully dancing—
As this familiar technique appeared, countless spectators' eyes widened, watching Beautifly weave through hundreds of Pokémon.
"Stay—stay away from it!"
Most of the Coordinators in the Southern Zone, seeing Beautifly's transformation, were shocked and involuntarily cried out. But after shouting, they quickly realized that their Pokémon could not receive any commands.
How dramatic was Beautifly's transformation?
Among hundreds of Pokémon, it danced without restraint, using one Pokémon after another as shields. The dense rain of beams?
All of the beams, all the Pokémon shot down by the beams, could not even get close to Beautifly.
Its movements could no longer be described as merely agile; its technique had reached an unparalleled, pinnacle level—so much so that it completely surpassed the understanding of the flying devices, which were originally designed as the event's main "obstacle" mechanism. At this level, the attacks posed absolutely no threat to Beautifly.
"This is... Top Coordinator Terrance….. his Beautifly!"
The familiar technique gave even a common Pokémon like Beautifly a touch of unique flair.
Terrance's... Beautifly!
