The last day before the quest passed in the blink of an eye. I had to fix both my suit and Sylvia's while also adjusting John's suit so that Tommy wouldn't need a new one.
"... Too much compassion is going to turn you into an anti-hero. That will turn you boring," Ryuk commented.
'I do have compassion, but just the right amount. I am not doing this out of kindness; don't misunderstand me; I am simply improving my tools,' I stated. 'Plus, I had to upgrade the restraint on Sylvia's suit; I can't have her accidentally kill someone.'
"Wouldn't that make her someone more than a tool? I think letting her "accidentally" kill someone would make her a better companion," Ryuk suggested.
Ryuk made a good point, but the current Sylvia is already S rank; if it wasn't for the suit I made for her, restraining her actual strength to C rank, she would be a lot harder to control. So, the current me has no way to control her unless I become stronger.
I can't let her kill someone yet or else there is a chance that things will turn for the worse.
"... By the way, what the hell is he doing?" Ryuk asked, turning his head towards Tommy, who was sitting on his bed in a lotus position with his eyes closed, while murmuring something under his breath.
'He is trying to advance to a B rank aura user; that's the stage where you get a colour for your aura as well as an attribute just like a meta-human. According to the original novel, he never used any aura so I am a bit interested to find out what colour he gets,' I replied.
I can't say that I am not impressed by his growth, although aura users start at C rank, to reach B rank so quickly... Sigh... I am surrounded by geniuses. However, I am not far off; I think I know what my attributes are; I just need to put them to use.
"So five more chapters?" Ryuk asked.
'What?' I asked back, not understanding his question.
"Nothing, I was just wondering what your attributes might be," Ryuk replied.
"Please be black... Please be black..." Tommy murmured.
'... At this point I don't even know why he wants his aura to be black,' I stated.
Oh well, that's not something I have to worry about.
In a few minutes, a dazzling black light usurped the room completely, claiming it as its own. The light was so bright that I felt as if I would go blind if I looked at it for more than a minute.
"If I go blind because of your stupid breakthrough, I swear to god, I will make you blind as well!" I shouted, covering my eyes with both my hands.
The light dimmed down gradually as I slowly removed my hands and opened my eyes as well.
"Congratulations and fuck you for almost making me blind," I said, still experiencing the after effects of the bright light.
"I didn't know it would be this bright, it would blow my cover in the day if it's this bright. Although I have no use of it in the day, it would still be nice to have a dimmer aura," Tommy stated. "How do I find my attributes now?"
"That's something for you to figure out but since black colour aura masters are mostly assassins, you should have shadow manipulation attributes or space type attributes," I explained. "Both of them will help you greatly, no matter what you get."
"Imagine if I get both, hah! That would be funny," Tommy laughed lightly. "The more the attributes, the better the foundation. Wait doesn't that also mean that I am B- rank, right now? I have to find my attributes to become an actual B rank aura user, well not like I have the time."
"Stop talking, both of us need some rest and I need to find my last two attributes as well," I said, throwing a flat round shaped energy core at his direction. "That's your suit, I didn't have time to make a new one so I adjusted John's suit to your size and gave it the blackest texture I could find, no capes for you though, I hate capes."
"... Are you an angel?" Tommy asked, catching the energy core with his left hand, which made Ryuk burst out in laughter.
"Ahaha! Now I understand why you two get along so well, you are like actual brothers from different mothers!" Ryuk said, laughing hysterically.
"Think of it as a return gift for teaching me archery, plus I can't let a teammate go on a mission unprepared," I said with an expressionless face. "And... I want to ask for a favour."
"What is it?" Tommy asked, curiously.
"I have done some research on the pirates we are going after, one of them is illusionary mage. I am just saying this as a precaution but... If I get captured in her illusions, don't call out my real name, call me Savitar and I will snap out of it," I stated seriously.
In reality, although I have already mind imprinted myself to not get easily mind controlled, I was still a beginner in this area of expertise. So, I needed someone to call out a code word to wake me up from the illusions if the need arised. This was also my way of turning him into something more than just a tool, I was turning him into an ally.
"I understand, I won't ask you how you will do that but if you causing yourself harm in the process, some people might be upset," Tommy replied.
"Shut it, I already have too many people to worry about me, I don't need another one to show me so much empathy," I said, before laying down on my bed and falling asleep instantly.
'... How the fuck does he do that?' Tommy wondered, adding another question to his mind, before falling asleep in the same way.
Compassion... It's more difficult to control than I expected.
