Kate paid for the girls' ice cream and noticed they weren't eating it. Everyone was giving them the stink eye and Kate felt uncomfortable.
"My brother is nearby. Let's go get him." Alexandra smiled
Kate replied, "Why, not. Rafe didn't say to return immediately."
"YEAH," Alexandra exclaimed
Alexandra walked forward in the direction where her twin's presence was. Kate held the girls' hands as they were about to enter an alley. The smell of blood hit Kate's nose.
"He's in there?" Kate asked
Alexandra smiled, "Not anymore."
Everyone passed them as if nothing had occurred although they had lost a member of the town. A woman in her late thirties lay in a pool of blood in that alleyway. Kate looked at the girls and they stared back at her.
"Let's search the body." Alexandra smiled
Kate frowned, "Why isn't anyone calling the police?"
"Who knows," Lucielle replied
Kate felt a shiver down her spine as she looked at the girls. Alexandra picked up a briefcase, Kate tried to grab it from her and tripped into the corpse.
"Tsk, tsk. Adults these days." Alexandra teased "We're going."
"Wait-" Kate reacted
Although the kids were absent and people were now looking at her. The sirens of a Police car hit her ears and she quickly ran away into the woods.
"Damn it." Kate thought as the Police officers closed in on her "What do I do?"
The girls went and met up with Alexander at a diner. Alexandra helped Lucielle into the diner booth and the waiter came.
"Why are you here?" the waiter frowned "Blind brat."
Lucielle frowned and Alexandra held her hand tightly. The twins glared at the waiter and wondered why people were like this.
"If she eats here, the business will go bad." the waiter told "Get out."
"We won't order anything," Alexander said
The chef came from the kitchen holding a pan as Rafael walked in with Delmira.
"WHAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND?!" The chef yelled, "WE DON'T WANT YOU!!"
The chef tossed his pan towards Lucielle and the oil inside fell on her arms. She screamed loudly and Delmira barked furiously. All hell went toss as the chef's head fell to the ground and blood sprayed upwards like a fountain.
"THE BLIND GIRL CURSED US!!!" People shouted
The noise didn't reach Rafael's ear and he looked at the twins' green eyes looking back at him. The door shut itself and red hands poured out of the dead chef's neck. Eyes looked at the people from the shadows.
Rafael walked forward towards the booth and brought the twins into his arms. He blocked their view of the people that wronged them.
"Hey. We need to go treat her." Rafael told, "It's okay."
Hot tears finally fell from the twins' eyes as they hit Rafael's chest. They yelled at him saying it wasn't fair and that they'd kill the people. Rafael quietly took in their grievances until they were tired and their hands sore.
Delmira had enveloped a green light over Lucielle's arms with a soft whine. Rafael turned towards the crowd behind him with green eyes and a hint of another color.
"Run. Run very far away." Rafael said
The door flung open and the people ran away like headless chickens. They yelled that the curse of the blind girl had fallen on them. Rafael felt a bitter taste in his mouth seeing Lucielle's scarred arms.
Rafael took out his phone and police sirens came in moments.
"Continue the waterworks, kids," Rafael told
Rafael had a scared expression as he gave a perfect lie about what had happened. He took the kids into the forest when no one was looking and returned to the house. They found Tyler and Paisley panting outside.
"What did I miss?" Rafael sighed
"What did you make me cut?!" Paisley yelled
Rafael covered his ears, "Hopefully a human."
"What did we miss?" Tyler wondered looking over the kids and his friend
"Murder," they answered
"The world is truly cruel." Tyler nodded
Paisley yelled, "You believe them. I wouldn't be surprised if they committed murder!"
Rafael had a pitiful expression as he teased Paisley with Tyler.
"Luci." Alexandra went "Are you okay?"
"It happens a lot. I'm sorry you had to go through something so unpleasant." Lucielle replied
Alexander replied, "And you?"
Lucielle put on and smile. Rafael who was half-heartedly listening paused and looked at the forced smile. Tyler walked forward and held Lucielle's shoulders.
"Don't do that," he said
Lucielle asked, "What?"
The twins went, "We'll protect so...please if you're not okay-"
Lucielle wavered in her eyes, remembering the sharp pain of her aunt's cane and the hardness of her uncle's boot. She suddenly remembered a bloody body of a boy around her age.
"I'm fine." Lucielle forced out "Maybe...you shouldn't be around me."
"But...I like being with Luci." Alexandra cried "I've never had a younger sister."
"It won't end well for you if the town hates you. We should avoid being seen together." Lucielle told
"No." Tyler told "If we stop seeing you. Won't you be alone in whatever the heck is happening?"
Lucielle smiled and Tyler bit his lip.
"I'll be your friend." Tyler announced, "The town be damned."
Her eyes widened at Tyler's announcement and she felt an odd warmth in her chest. She pulled away from Tyler's grip and ran into town. Rafael stopped the twins from chasing her.
"Give her some time. Okay?" Rafael smiled
Tyler frowned, "No way."
Tyler ran after and Rafael sighed, "Blind girl's curse? Who came up with something so specific?"
"Maybe someone who wants to wear away at her patience." Paisley answered, "Wouldn't a beast be scary after it's cornered especially a kid?"
"Two cases and not enough time. And where is Kate?!" Rafael frowned
"About those corpses. He made a human weapon." Paisley said with a cold sweat
Rafael swallowed, "What."
"The man you killed. He was a scientist that was arrested seventeen years ago and given the death sentence. His crime was trying to make a weapon and humans were his material." Paisley said
Rafael couldn't remain calm.
"He was given a death sentence since he was determined to complete his work. What I don't understand, this man died. How is he alive, Rafael?" Paisley frowned
"Why wouldn't he be? As a ghost or a monster." the twins answered with glowing eyes and thin smiles
