Eva stood motionless for a heartbeat too long before Xylon's voice cut through the silence.
"I haven't slept since I left," he murmured.
She knew what he meant.
He needed sleep—and he needed her right next to him, like always.
Her fingers tensed slightly against the fabric of her dress as she stood there, watching him.
Her throat tightened, a knot of everything she hadn't said all week.
She bit her lip, swallowed hard, then finally found her voice—fragile, uneven.
"You… y-you could've told me," she whispered, her eyes flicking away from his. "That you were… l-leaving."
Xylon looked at her for too long—his gaze unreadable, carved from silence and shadows.
"I could have, yes," he said at last, his voice low, calm.
"But Eva… you looked so peaceful." His voice dropped. "Like you finally found rest"
He paused, gaze flickering toward the pillow she used to sleep on beside him.
