Jared directed us to his house. He mostly came by walking so he found it hard to direct us but we got there eventually.
"Wow !" Madi and I exclaimed when we got to the neighborhood. The area was unplanned and there were a lot of filth around. Some people came out of their house , looking at us and that made me uncomfortable.
"Do you know them?" I asked Jared
"They are our neighbors " he replied and I nodded. We ignored them and went to Jared's house. There was a man at the entrance who was smoking with bottles of alcohol around him and I guessed that might be his father.
"That's my father" he said , hiding behind me. I felt scared but I wasn't going to act like a coward.
"Good day sir!" I greeted and he raised his head to look at me then at Jared who had held my hands firmly.
"What trouble did he cause this time" he said in a hoarse voice.
"He didn't cause any trouble sir, I met him at the supermarket and just brought him home" I replied.
"Thanks miss.. come here fool!" he grabbed his collar.
"That's not how to treat your son sir" I said trying not to show how angry I was.
"I told you not to bring me home!" Jared cried.
"He is my son and I can treat him anyhow I want" he replied still holding his collar.
"Loosen your grip please" I said and pulled him towards me.
"She is right sir, Jared is a little boy and even though he is your child, that doesn't give you the right to maltreat him" Madi interfered.
"So are you two cops or what " he said
"We are no cops but if you beat up this child just know that I'm calling the cops on you " I replied trying not to be intimidated by his looks.
"You will call the cops on me for disciplining my own child" he laughed.
"This isn't discipline sir , this is abuse!" Madi said.
"Why don't you take him away with you if you care about him that much!" he laughed.
"Can I do that?" I said boldly and he was speechless for a while including Madi who looked at me surprised.
"What did you say?" he asked as if he didn't hear me the last time.
"I'm asking if it's possible to adopt Jared" I said.
"How old are you and do you have any money!" he laughed.
"Just answer me sir .. would you freely hand me Jared if my parents agreed to adopt him?"
"If they are ready to pay me huge..why not" he said sipping on to his alcohol. I wasn't one bit surprised with his answer..he was the most heartless person I've ever encountered and I didn't want Jared to grow up with someone like him as a father.
" We will come for him in a week time and we will pay you whatever amount you want with the condition that there will be no bruises on him when I return for him..is it a deal" I said
"Deal but don't make a fool out of me" he replied.
"You don't have to worry" I said looking at Jared who stared at me surprised.
"This is what you want right?" I knelt in front of him and asked. He made sure his father wasn't looking and nodded.
"I will come for you in a week time okay just take care of yourself" I said and hugged him. I gave him some money and food before leaving.
"What was that back there?" Madison asked still surprised.
"Nothing Madi I'm just getting a little brother!"I smiled.
"Are you stupid Amara.. this man looks dangerous what if this is all a trick and that boy is only acting on the whims of his dad" she said.
"I don't know Madi but Jared seemed honest .. didn't you notice how scared he was when we brought him home"
"I know that but how sure are you that your parents will agree" she said worriedly.
"I'm not sure but I can try and convince them ...my parents had always suggested adoption to me but I refused all the time"
"What if they refuse this time around..you heard what that man said " don't make a fool out of me" " she said.
Let's drop this conversation I'm really positive about adopting Jared" I replied.
"If you say so " she said.
Madi and I met Alice at the station around 1 pm and brought her home. She was so happy to finally be in Los Angeles and was excited to see me. She hugged me and Madison as well. I've already informed her about Madi and she was always delighted to meet her. We led her to my car and she insisted on driving.
"Ain't you tired ?" I asked as she sat behind the wheel.
"No bitch ! it has always been on my adventure list to drive through this beautiful town..I'm here Los Angeles!!!!" she screamed taken us aback.
"Alright but make sure you don't kill us " I laughed and connected her phone to the car's Bluetooth.
"She has nice taste in music than me" I complimented to Madi.
"Of course I have..you know I have better taste in everything than you " she teased.
"I won't argue " I laughed . We arrived home in an hour time and Alice wouldn't stop talking about how big and beautiful our house was. She had a few chat with Madi and they soon bonded as if they've knew each other for ages. Madison told her about all the stuffs in school and even brought up the party Jake invited us to.
"Are you refusing a party bitch!" Alice gasped and threw a teddy at me.
"I thought we were having a girls night today" I replied.
"That's silly girl ... thanks for bringing this party up Madi this is going to be the best trip ever.. first day in Los Angeles and I get to attend a party!" she exclaimed, hugging Madi tightly.
"That's what I've been trying to tell her... this party is going to be one of the best in town but she still insist on not going" Madi said
"How is a party by a river fun" I rolled my eyes.
"An open air party! wow ! Don't talk much Madi let's go shopping I'm coming with you!" Alice exclaimed.
"You know you don't have to shop for new clothes " I said.
"I didn't bring party dresses and you know I find your clothes boring" she said.
"If we are going I might as well buy a dress.. I've never been to a party before" Madi replied shyly.
"It's all set then ..are we going shopping alone or you coming with us ?" Alice said to me.
"I will be bored stiff here " I replied and tagged along.
It was 6:30 in the evening and the party was scheduled to begin two hours from now. We had a light dinner, quickly freshened up and dressed up for the party. Alice bought a silver dress that was so cute and Madi got pretty blue fitting dress. I had no intention of buying a dress but Alice chose one dress for me and it was actually cute . It was a black dress with a zigzag stripes from the back of my neck to my waist then continued in a flare . It was so beautiful and it fit perfectly. I wore block heels and Alice applied a little bit of make up on my face. She did the same for Madi and she looked different. Madi was definitely hiding her looks by being messy most of the time. I tied my hair in a ponytail and we got set to leave the house . Madi directed us to where the party was being held and we arrived in no time.
