Chapter 1 - New beginnings (1)

"I hate this world and everything in it. I curse it to the very fabric of my being. Heh. Not like it'll matter. After all, it's not like in the shows where I can use my curses to affect things." The boy thought as he lay on the road after getting hit. The vehicle blazed through a red light while being chased by police.

Ding

"Please, someone, help me this once... Maybe they will heal me up before I die. If I do make it through this, I'm going to live the way I want for now on." The boy tried his hardest to speak out as he lay there. The police ignored the boy as they swarmed the car. Seeing the officer ignoring his situation, he started to accept that he was going to die.

"At least I'm going to be able to see beyond this." His vision was getting darker and darker. The last thing he saw was a girl standing above him, putting pressure on his wounds. "Hopefully, I look good right now."

The boy's eyes shot open. "Was I saved?"

He heard footsteps running away as fast as they could. The boy tried to move his body, but everything felt incredibly heavy. Suddenly, he heard sounds of gunshots going off and a language he had never heard before.

Ding

The boy thought he must be going crazy.

"Ye...Yes." He thought hesitantly.

"Wait... Why would surviving be classified as hard?" No matter how much he thought about it, he couldn't seem to figure it out. As he sat there reading over the quest again to make sure he was reading it right, a sudden burst of cold hit him. It wasn't a cold you would feel being outside in winter, but a similar type of freezing feel he had when he was taking his last breath. He saw what looked to be a hand reach over him from behind. Quickly, the hand multiplied. One hand became two. Two became four. Four became a wall that he could no longer see through. He felt them all grab him; instead of the feeling of being squeezed, though he felt like something was entering him.

He felt hundreds of thousands of people becoming one with him, slowly trying to corrupt him before they died off and merged with him.

Slowly, time ticked forward.

The boy fought for his life, in and out, day after day. After what felt like an eternity a few dings rang through his ears once more.

The outlander

Slime

Death

Berserker

Fairy

The outlander

Elder lich

Demon

Slime>

The boy sat there for what he assumed were days before he finally regained enough mentality to think again. As he sat there, a ding would occasionally go off. Finally, he looked at the messages while his eyes were shut.

He looked through the small descriptions of the recommended options.

The outlander: A being of aggression. Being ostracized by all formed his undying will to achieve his goals.

Elder Lich: Once human, now not. Sacrificed everything that he was to reach the pinnacle of knowledge.

Demon: Corrupter of souls, yet the purest of beings. Filled with yearning for all it can't have.

Slime: Like living water. Formless and Indestructible.

He decided that if nothing in the large list he was given interested him, he would pick one from there. The time ticked quickly. he didn't get through even .01% of the list before the message gave him one last warning. Under the weight of his choice, he picked the choice that seemed, in his opinion, from the description, the most normal of the recommended choices. After picking 'The Outlander' a strange feeling washed over him before a booming, growling voice appeared from the deepest recess of his soul.

"In the first age, in the first battle, when the shadows first lengthened, one stood..."

After the voice stopped, a surreal serenity formed over him. The gnawing and suffering he felt crushed him before, but he felt lighter now. The pit he felt himself sinking into all of a sudden felt like it wasn't impossible to beat. He looked over at the tutorial mission.

Seeing that he felt a cold sweat on his back. He knew by the numbers that if he didn't get this option, he would not have survived. His body was still being broken down and reformed from both the souls and the evolution. After lying there for another month, he heard two more dings.

Time continued to pass. After many years, the planes and gunshots that were occasionally heard stopped. The strange messages that had been silent for a long time finally went off one last time.

The boy noticed as he drew closer and closer to the 15-year limit. The growth skill for his body-related skills stopped 3 years ago at SS and lost its growth attribute. He noticed a strange synergy between his body and the trial. For the last 11 years, he lay there unable to move due to the destruction and creation of his body, which caused him to think a lot.

This "trial" seemed to be the strange system's way of getting him used to the skills he originally got. More specifically, the Curse of the World's Burial Mound and Demonic Cultivation. The burial mound was linked to the spirits of the dead souls in the area around him. He just didn't know how "around" him it pulled from, which led him to the next question. Will this ever actually stop? He came to the conclusion that once he fully connected to the pit, he "should" be able to stop it, but it came down to what happened after the tutorial ended. He also tried to find out where the souls went after the initial collision. Once the souls collided with him and failed, they seemed to turn into energy and get absorbed by his entire body, giving it an energy that also seems to keep him from feeling hungry, tired, or cold. Almost as if he was feeding on the residue of the energy. As he sat there thinking and dreaming, a noise he hadn't heard in a long time rang out.

Quickly, the boy looked at the newly unlocked features.

After thinking about opening a status screen, a screen appeared.

Looking over it gave him a general overview of everything. It even gave him the body's name. Something he never had even crossed his mind.

Quickly, Luka, open the Shop.

Looking through the shop sub-categories gave him a good idea of what 300,000 points can do. For the first time in 15 years, Luka opened his eyes. Sitting up, he looked out into the forest. Not far from where he sat was a skeleton. Empty. He felt so empty looking at it, as if it didn't concern him. He felt happy and excited he could finally start to live his life again. Yet, the fact the first thing he say was a skeleton in a military outfit didn't seem to bother him. Getting up was a challenge since he couldn't keep his balance, but after a few dozen attempts, he got used to it. Slowly, he started walking. Looking to his left, he saw a mirror. Walking to it, he saw himself. He had black hair that reached just above his shoulders. A pale complexion that looked like he was bathed in Ice for days, and piercing red eyes. His eyes were so deep and vivid crimson that they looked just like a pair of priceless rubies. He was so entranced by those eyes that he struggled to pull them away from the reflection.

Reading the mission that pulled his eyes away, he finally remembered the item in the reward he got.

Think about it, he felt it in his hand.

"It just... appears. Now, how do I use it?" Holding it up to look at it, it burst into flames the moment he started thinking about using it. A pulse of air extends from that spot, rustling the leaves on the trees it passes. Slowly, it goes for about 30 miles until it reaches a mile into the ocean surrounding the small island. After the wind vanished, everything was momentarily calm.

Crack

A large flash of light sprang out. One visible to the naked eye that was seen on the coast of both continents on either side of the island, and a pulse of spiritual energy sprang out. Across the world a few of the magically incline people looked in the direction of the island. Most people went about their business only feeling the burst of light was strange. On the island Luka sat. Water fell of the side of the island infinitely with the tiny little shrine he was at the center of it all.
