Patricia felt her pupils dilated in an instance. She didn't know how to react to this accusation. She should have known something was up when she started seeing Mike and Grace together.
She thought Grace hated Mike and would never speak to him regarding that incident. She thought she had played safe, but the devil took a joke on her. How could she have been so careless? She scolded herself.
"You have nothing to say now right? Because you know I'm right. How could you have done such a thing, I freaking trusted you." Mike yelled at her and she fidgeted back a little.
"I don't know what you are talking about Mike. I don't know what you must have heard from Grace, but I can assure you that none of that is true." Patricia said and touched Mike's hand, hoping to cajole him to believe her.
"It really isn't true. You know Grace has a crush on you. She's probably just doing all of these to separate us. You, of all people, should what that family is capable of. I didn't covet you. We both fell in love with each other." Patricia said and kissed Mike on the cheek.
She slowly removed her robe, revealing her naked body. She didn't want to do this, but she needed something to distract him.
Patricia placed kisses on his shoulder. And seeing he wasn't refusing her, she thought he was in for it. She placed her arm around his shoulder and hugged him tight.
"Get away from me," Mike jerked her off him like a parasite. Patricia was shocked.
"I can't believe I was so blind and didn't see your true colours. Weren't you the one who read the letter written by Grace? And you made me write that stupid letter." Mike gritted in between his teeth, with his fist clenched into a tight ball.
"You lied to me Patrica, you said you needed it for a script. But you sent it to Grace. She thought I was the one and left the country thinking I rejected her. How could you have?" Mike asked her, feeling betrayed.
"I swear to you that I didn't do anything like that." Patricia lied. She closed her eyes, trying to fake a few tears. She needed this to look real.
"I don't believe you." Mike interjected.
"I swear on our baby Mike." Patricia cried using her last resort.
Mike shook his head and made way to Patricia's room. Luckily the door was unlocked. They kept separate rooms, so he doesn't enter here much. He headed straight to her closet.
He has no idea what he's looking for, but he's sure he's going to find something here. He started to go through her clothes, scattering and turning the whole place upside down.
"What in the world you are doing going through my things Mike? Have you lost your mind?" Patricia yelled and Mike turned to look at her.
"Well! we will see about that" he smiled at her wickedly and continued. Finally he came across a box and brought it out. Patricia panicked the minute she saw the box. That was where she hid the letters.
"That is my jewellery box, give it back Mike. There's something valuable in there, my father gave it to me. You are supposed to respect my privacy." she complained.
"Well you should have respected mine, and stayed the hell out of my life. But you decided to disrupt it." Mike said his eyes bloodshot.
"What's the code?" Mike asked, and she looked away.
"You either tell me now, or I'm going to take it away and have it opened." Mike said, and Patricia eyes widened with shock.
"Why are you willing to go this far?" Patricia asked, and he laughed.
"I'm willing to go farther for the woman that I love. I will do anything just for Grace. I was blind and let her go once, I won't make such a stupid mistake again." Mike said, and Patricia was shocked at his confession. She didn't realize things had gone far between the both of them.
"What are you even saying? How can you profess love to another woman in front of me?" Patricia said, trying to play the victim, but Mike wasn't falling for it.
"What's the code?" He asked again, refusing to be distracted. Patricia refused to talk, so Mike decided to give it a try.
He inputed a code, and the box opened immediately. Patricia was shocked and dashed at him, trying to retrieve the box.
"How did….." she stammered.
"Do you love him that much? The pass code to your safe happens to be Chris's birthday. You went through all this trouble for him. Separating Grace and I, getting married to me, just to be close to him. Or don't tell me you were waiting for him to come to you." Mike scoffed.
He opened the box and scurried through it. He found the letters and brought them out. He wasn't the least surprised, because he suspected he would find something like this here.
Patricia shut her eyes in frustration, she knew she has already been caught. She just needs to minimise the damage. How the hell will she defend herself now.
Mike's eyes watered with tears as he read the letter Grace wrote to him. He can't believe he would have missed out on this much love if something didn't happen. He sniffed back his tears and looked away for a second.
Were you even pregnant? How am I sure it wasn't one of your many tactics?" Mike asked, pulling the last straw.
"How could you say that? I carried our baby and lost him in the most tragic manner, and this is what you had to say to me? How can you be so cruel?" Patricia cried trying to gather some pity.
"You might want to cut the act with me Patricia. You swore on the baby just a while ago, and it turned out to be a lie. I'm sure the baby never existed and I'm going to find out." Mike said.
"But while I'm at it, you should get yourself prepared. I want a divorce." Mike announced.
