"What!" Grace exclaimed and Mike smiled at her. That was not the reaction he was expecting from her. He thought she wanted to be with him, and she would he happy he's going to be a free man.
"Grace what's the problem? Aren't you happy?" Mike asked her, but she didn't say anything. She just walked away in silence.
"Grace!" Mike called. He wanted to let her be, but he remembered the last time that happened, she almost drifted away again.
"Grace!" He called after her and followed her as she walked to her room. She was about locking the door, but Mike stopped the door with his foot.
"What is the matter with you Grace? I thought this was what you wanted. Don't you want to be with me anymore?" Mike asked her, and Grace was forced to face him.
"I know I'm supposed to be happy that you are getting a divorce, but I don't want to be the reason why you are getting a divorce from your wife." Grace said and Mike heaved a deep sigh in relief.
For a second there, he thought she didn't want to be with him anymore. But he can see she was only worried, which is quite normal.
"Grace did you hear everything your father said back there? I don't want to live like that. And I don't want you to live like that as well." Mike began. He walked towards Grace and grabbed her waist.
"I lost you once because I was foolish enough not to realize that you loved me. I made a mistake by marrying Patricia. I would be damned if I didn't correct the mistake I made. I don't want to lose you again, I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Grace." Mike added.
"I love you, I've always loved you, and I will continue to love you." Mike said, and before Grace could say anything, Mike kissed her.
They both kissed each other till they could no longer breathe. Mike carried Grace and brought her to the bed. He continued to kiss her, and they both got lost in the moment.
"Hold on," Grace said and stood up from the bed.
"I don't think we should do this now. You are still married, and it's wrong. Besides, I don't want my first time to be rushed. I want it to be special." Grace said her face flushed and pale.
"First time?" Mike was a little bit confused. That was the only thing he heard.
"Yes Mike, my first time. I have been waiting for you all my life." Grace said, and he got emotional.
"I don't deserve it. That is why I must work hard to make sure I make things right and give you the life that you deserve." Mike said, his eyes watered with tears.
"I can't wait." Grace said with a sad smile.
"In that case, I should get going, I don't trust myself enough. I don't know how long I can be here with you without wanting to tear you down." Mike said, and Grace blushed. She never thought the day when Mike would find her appealing would come.
"Wait, before you leave. There's something I want to show you." Grace said and made way to her closet. Mike followed after her and was amazed at how beautiful her closet looked.
"Is it just me, or I'm in the closet of the most renowned actress in the country. I should take a picture, I might become a celebrity with it." Mike said sarcastically and Grace giggled.
He sure knows how to make her laugh. Must have been one of the reason why she fell in love with him. She reached for her safe and brought out the letter that changed the course of her life years ago.
"Here," Grace said and handed the letter to him. She exhaled sharply as she watched him take it.
"What is this?" Mike asked her, and she walked up to him with her hand over her chest.
"That was the letter you sent to me in response to my confession. After I wrote the letter to you waiting for you to respond to me. You sent me this letter, rejecting me." Grace said with a frown, as she remembered how that letter made her feel.
Mike took the letter and read through it. His eyes widened with shock as soon as he realised what happened.
"No way!" Mike explained leaving Grace confused. From his expression, it shows he had seen the letter before. He doesn't look surprised in the least, that goes to show he wrote that letter.
"I'm sure you remember the letter now. I had the letter sent for a handwriting test. It came back positive as yours. Which means you rejected me all those years ago Mike. And your expression now, just shows that you did write the letter." Grace said in a single breathe, tears running down her cheek.
Seeing he wasn't saying anything, she walked out of the closet, but Mike dragged her back.
"Grace hear me out, please. I wrote this letter, but it wasn't for you. I have no idea how you got this." Mike said, trying to remember exactly what happened.
"What?" Grace was left confused by his statement. ' Was he going to make another excuse? ' she thought to herself.
"I swear to you that I never got your letter. I wrote this letter for Patricia. She came to my office that day and asked that I help her with some assignments." Mike began to explain, and Grace was forced to listen.
"She said she needed help writing some lines for a drama she was acting back then. She told me what to write, and I did just that. This is the exact same letter I wrote back then, and I remember it so well." Mike explained, and Grace was stunned.
She frowned at the possibility of what might have happened back then.
"So are you saying, Patricia asked that you write this letter for her?" Grace asked and Mike nodded his head.
"Yes!" Mike replied.
"And you never got the letter I wrote to you?" Grace asked.
"No I didn't. Otherwise, I would have known you liked me." Mike answered.
