Dinner at Liam's is always interesting.
This isn't my first time. I'm alowed to cook, no one's formal, and the atmosphere is chill. Everyone treats me like I belong.
That's something I've missed.
"I made too much." I frowned at the casserole dish of purple vegetables you won't find in any supermarkets. They resemble raspberries but have the texture of soft carrots with a tangier flavor. I mixed them with a leafy cabbage with a pleasant bitterness that countered the sweetness. I added bright orange chili to give it some spice, but I couldn't imagine it being eaten.
"You might not have made enough." Sarah laughed as we finished setting the long table. "You know the boys love it when you cook."
"Quick, get your food now before they finish washing up!" Maggie hurried to her chair beside me, loading her plate. "They won't leave us any!"
"Maggie!" Even I winced at her tone as she took her place at the head of the table. "Wait for everyone!"
