Chapter 5 - Mirror, Mirror...

"Vianna! Let's go play!" Alaric called from outside her door.

Vianna had locked herself in her room since the day she and her mother moved into the castle. She didn't want to play or go outside. She barely ate and even that was a struggle. Only her mother was able to take her food.

Vianna did not respond to Alaric.

"You can't stay in there forever! I am bored!" He yelled as he lay down lengthways in front of her door. She remained quiet. "Arrgg!" Alaric growled as he looked back and saw Catelyn walking down the hall towards Vianna's room.

Alaric stood up off of the floor and walked over to Catelyn.

"Mrs. Owen, Vianna just stays locked up in her room. Make her come out! What is wrong with her? Is she ok?" He asked, frustrated.

"Oh Alaric, sweetheart," Catelyn said, lowering herself to a kneel as she placed her hand on the side of his face. "Vianna is going through a lot right now. She really misses her father, and she is angry with herself. We just need to love her and do whatever we can to help her get through this.

Alaric lowered his head as he listened to Catelyn.

"I understand, Mrs. Owen. I just miss my friend." He said, throwing his arms around Catelyn and burying his face in her shoulder with a whimper, nearly throwing her over. He is such a strong little one. She thought.

"Don't worry Alaric." Catelyn said as she gave him a little squeeze then broke their embrace and looked at him in his eyes.

"We will figure out how to help Harold and Ana will be herself in no time. Have faith. We are in this together." Catelyn said with a smile.

"Ok, Mrs. Owen." Alaric said, wiping away a tear that fell down his cheek.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper that was folded in half. He walked up to Vianna's door and slid the paper underneath her door.

"See you later Ana!" He shouted as he walked off to find something to keep him busy.

Catelyn watched with sadness in her heart as Alaric walked away defeated. He really loved his best friend.

"Vianna." Catelyn said as she gently knocked on the door. "Are you hungry honey? Can I come in?" She asked.

After a few moments of silence, Vianna answered. "I am ok mom. I am not hungry. She said with barely a whisper.

Her mother struggled to hear her. "Well, I will be back a little later. You have to eat something before you get sick." Her mother warned her. Vianna remained silent as Catelyn walked away not trying to force her.

Viana walked back over to the window located at the far side of her room and sat in a wooden rocking chair. It was the only place she felt any kind of comfort. She let the warmth from the sun beam through, caressing her face as she rocked and looked out at the garden.

The garden reminded her of her parents and brought her a touch of peace in the chaos that circulated within her. She was lost in thoughts of her parents spending time together in their garden while Vianna would play in the yard.

Vianna looked around the room that belonged to her for the time being. It was much larger than her room at her parents home but she preferred to be at home anyway.

The room Vianna was given was very pretty with pinks, white's golds and a wooden floor with throw rugs.

The bed was filled with fluffy pillows, stuffed animals, and blankets. There was a huge beanbag in the corner of the room where Vianna could almost become lost in its depth. She also had a pink and white bathroom for herself so she never really had to leave her room.

The alpha did everything he could to make sure Vianna and her mother were as comfortable as possible. She was grateful but couldn't find a drop of happiness inside of her.

Vianna felt completely numb today. It had been weeks since the accident. Her father had remained in his condition with the help of Dr. Brinks. He was able to keep him stable, but he was not getting better. She hated herself for being the cause of her father's pain.

Vianna looked down at the contents in her hand. She held the paper she picked up from beneath her door. Carefully, she unfolded it, straightened it out, and began reading it.

Dear Ana,

I am sorry that you are sad. I wish I could help you to feel happy again. I miss your dad too.

My dad misses him too. My dad always looks sad now.

I know one-day things will be ok again. Your dad will be stronger than ever! He is a superhero, remember?

I will always be here if you want to talk or play or make a mess in the kitchen and make the maids mad.

I miss you soooooo much!

Love you Ana,

-Alaric

Tears fell out of Vianna's eyes. She dropped the letter on the floor and lowered her face into her hands crying softly.

"I miss you so much, dad."

She said faintly, as though she spoke directly to him.

Vianna didn't feel like she should be having fun while her father was sick. She should be punished for what happened. She couldn't feel happy until he was well again.

Suddenly, a green light sparkled in the corner of her eye towards the center of her bedroom. Vianna stood up slowly and carefully walked towards the direction of the sparkle. As she got closer, she reached out her hand to touch the sparkle.

Vianna's eyes were wide as she stared into the light. A wind began to whirl her hair and dress as she stood in front of the sparkle.

Vianna looked over to the window and noticed it was still closed. She couldn't understand where the wind came from.

She refocused on the green sparkle, cupped her hands around it, and looked closely. It reminded her of the sparklers she and Alaric used to play with during their parent's parties. They had so much fun with those.

Before Vianna could close her hands over the sparkle, it disappeared into her eyes. She blinked rapidly in disbelief of what had just happened. The wind instantaneously stopped whirling and the sparkle was gone.

Vianna realized she wasn't breathing the whole time. She inhaled heavily and looked around the room. Her head began feeling light. Maybe she was under stress like her mother would say. She walked over to the mirror and looked at herself.

Her eyes were green and glowing and her cheeks rosy. Vianna's smiled slightly. She felt magical, like a fairy for a moment. It was like she was lost in the middle of a fun dream.

The longer she looked at herself, her features began to change. Her eyes turned dark along with her lips, and her face was pale.

Fangs began to protrude from the sides of her mouth. She raised her hands to touch her fangs. She noticed the veins in her hands were dark and her nails became dark claws.

Vianna became frightened at her appearance. She didn't look like she was shifting into her wolf. She still had time before her first shift. She couldn't understand what she was seeing. Her heart raced as her breaths turned into short, quick breaths.

Vianna closed her eyes and stood there, hoping what she saw would go away.

"Do not fear, my child." A faint voice entered Vianna's head like a breeze. She opened her eyes and noticed her face and eyes looked normal again. She looked around the room and saw no one. She must be dreaming, she thought.

Walking over to her large bed, she decided to lay down. Her body was tense, and her head was spinning. She felt heavy and drained like she would pass out.

Vianna climbed onto her bed and fixed herself underneath her sheets. She hugged her pillow and drifted off to sleep.
