The Great History of the Arcus Kingdom

By Eric Will Horn

The Great collapse, said to have happened nearly 600 years ago. That was the start and the end of an era. Our current numbering system, the Human Era, began approximately 50 years after the great collapse. The missing years are referred to as the Lost years of humanity. Our current Kingdom, Arcus Kingdom is just the reformation of the old Empire of Man.

The Great Collapse, a devastating earthquake that sunk a huge amount of land into the ocean. According to historical records from the empire of man, the western sea use to be solid land. The amount of land lost is thought to be somewhere in the range of thousands of square miles. This is why it is officially called the Sea of Loss. Fishermen have stated that at its deepest part is only 40 feet deep. The many islands on the sea are simply the tops of hills that were never submerged. Latest surveys suggest that approximately 5 million people would have drowned when the land sank beneath the waves. This devastating lost of life, as well as a complete collapse of the government at the time is what resulted in the Lost Years. Society collapsed technology reverted and only the strong survived. This lack of government lead to the warlord system that existed for 500 years before king Roger began his unification war and recreated the Arcus Kingdom.

The Human era also known as the era of warlords, was a chaotic era where the strong ruled the weak. Each warlord only had control of one to two small towns as well as their castle town which would be mildly larger. A powerful warlord would be in control of approximately 2000 to 5000 citizens at most. The status quo lasted for nearly 500 years until king Roger the elder, the current king Roger's father discovered gold beneath his keep. King Roger using the gold that had been mined up by his father, began bribing his neighbors with riches or marriage in order to unify them under his command. With 5 warlords now under his command he began the creation of his great army. This was the beginning of the Arcus Kingdom. Using a preliminary version of our current draft system, king Roger began drafting every man and woman between the ages of 16 and 20 guaranteeing them a modest income as well as a chance to rise above their station. within five years of beginning his draft the initial recruits had reached a point where they were useful in battle as well as loyal to his army. Using the senior army members as well as some fresh new recruits as foot soldiers he began his March of unification. The orders went out to every member of his army to begin the March. His neighbors began falling 1 by 1 joining or dying under his army. Never before in our recorded history has any war of this scale taken place. The more he conquered the more he recruited. Every warlord in his path was given the choice join or die. As the army grew larger and more lands fell under King Rogers control, the warlords began to fall like dominoes. Within six years King Roger had conquered from the eastern to the western sea and from the northern mountains to the southern coast. Finally unifying what is left of the map.

The next 20 years have been spent truly unifying all the nobles of the Kingdom. Any warlord that surrendered maintained their title, and those who were conquered were killed. However, King Roger was merciful to their families, any child younger than 10 as well as the late Lord's wives were spared the slaughter. All children between the ages of 8 and 10 were taken by the king and educated in his private school for nobles. These children were then allowed to inherit their parents' territory upon turning 16. Until then they were under the stewardship of qualified men or women under the army's command. These territories operated under martial law and some still do under their new Lords.

Now we turn to the age of myths and legends. Before the great collapse the old empire of man was said to stretch the entire T of the continent. According to surviving documents the most common way B continent is compared to for shape is hold out your right hand with your thumb pointed down. Your hand is the same shape as the continent. Now using this analogy our Kingdom, the Arcus Kingdom is only the size of your thumb. The entirety of your pointer finger as well as to the knuckle back to your thumb is a massive mountain range. From the tip of your pointer finger back in a gentle curve to your thumb, is the sea of Loss. As of yet we have no way to sail north to verify these records. The Sea of Loss is completely impassable. Sailing South of the Sea of Loss and going around is thought to be impossible to navigate. Every exploratory vessel in the last 500 years who tried this has not returned. As for sailing up the East Coast it is impossible with modern technology. There is a strong Gale traveling approximately 100 miles an hour blowing from the north to the South at all times. This column of air for lack of a better term is approximately 400 meters wide and unknown how tall it is. As for why we don't go around that stretch of sea unfortunately belongs to the merfolk. Many people claim merfolk do not exist, however every ship that has gone past this column of air in the last 400 years has never returned. If merfolk don't exist there is something else out there, and it does not like humans.

In conclusion the Arcus Kingdom, well claiming to be the revival of the empire of man, is significantly smaller than it used to be. We can't be the only survivors, there must be more.

Not bad looks to be right for the most part, but I'm uncertain what

all they have been teaching you in that class so I can't comment.
