Chapter 4 - C4 Meetings

Suddenly, Dan found face to face with a stern-looking woman wearing an emerald green cloak and pointed hat. She peered over her glasses at him for a moment and gave a faint smile. "Are you Hermione Granger and Harry Potter's father?"

"Ah yes, I'm him," Dan said with some hesitation. "And you would be?"

"I'm professor Minerva McGonagall, and I have to about your children."

"A pleasure, ma'am... please, come in."

Once inside and after everyone was settled in the living room, everyone paid attention to the strangely dressed woman.

Harry was becoming a very good actor.

"I'm here with an offer to both your children." She pulled two letters and passed them to Harry and Hermione. "I'm the deputy headmistress of a rather unique boarding school."

Harry stored open the envelope and read out loud what was written inside.

Hogwarts School

of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore

(Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock,

Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards)

Dear Mr. Potter,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.

The term begins on 1 September. We await your letter no later than 31 July.

Yours sincerely,

Minerva McGonagall,

Deputy Headmistress

Hermione tore open the envelope and read the same thing, her eyes widening as she did.

Monica was the first to break the silence. "Is... is this a joke?

"No, Mrs. Granger, it is no joke," McGonagall answered. "Mr. and Mrs. Granger, the school I represent is a school of magic, and you children, Harry and Hermione, are a wizard and witch respectively."

"Can you prove it?" Dan asked.

McGonagall nodded and pulled a wand from her robes and flicked it towards the table in the living room. Immediately it transformed into a cat and meowed. Then she changed it back with another flick of the wrist.

"Magic..." Monica said, still dazed from watching her table turn into a cat.

"Those time that books just seemed to appear at Hermione's hand..." Dan said with an inquiring look to Minerva.

"Accidental Magic. It happens with magical children when their emotions are running high," McGonagall answered.

For some time, the adults talked and Harry and Hermione intervened with their opinions about if they should or not go to Hogwarts. In the end, they managed to convince Dan and Monica.

"Very well, now there's another subject that we must discuss," said the Professor. "Usually we only send the letter, and in this case visit the muggle-born family, once they had their eleventh birthday. That means that Mr. Potter should not have received his letter at this moment, but considering his status in the magical world it was decided that he should know about magic earlier."

"My status?" truly, faking was becoming easier and easier to Harry. He didn't know if that was good or bad.

"Yes, your status. You see Mr. Potter, in our world you are famous." McGonagall took a deep breath. "Years ago the British magical world was in a state of war. A dark wizard called Vol-Voldemort gathered followers and went to try to take over magical Britain. He was so evil that people feared his name and so he came to be known as He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named or You-Know-Who. There were those of us that fought against him, and your parents were among those numbers."

"What happened then?" Hermione asked curiosity and nervousness written all over her face.

"We were losing. Everyone who stood up to him ended up dead," the Professor said. "And then, on October 31, 1981, You-Know-Who went himself to your parent's house, Harry. No one knows why he did so. As you can imagine, your parents didn't survive but when he tried to kill you Harry something must have gone wrong. You survived and from that night on no one heard of You-Know-Who again."

Minerva took a pause before continuing. "That's why you are famous Mr. Potter, you lived when no one else was able to. To our world you are the one who defeated You-Know-Who, you are The-Boy-Who-Lived."

After that, Professor McGonagall explained things that muggle-born students and their parents should know about the magical world.

The Professor talked about the classes, Hogwart's houses, and where one should go to buy the school supplies.

She also talked a little about Harry's parents. How James was her best student in Transfiguration but a troublemaker. How Lily was the brightest witch of her age and Head Girl.

It was almost lunch when Professor McGonagall took her to leave, after all, it was September and class had already started. Before leaving, she said that someone would meet them tomorrow so they could go to Diagon Alley.

The rest of the day was spent with Hermoine buzzing with excitement about learning magic, Dan and Monica wondering about the magical world, and Harry coming to terms that in one year he would be going back to Hogwarts.

He wondered if he would be able to buy Hedwig tomorrow...
