The comfort that her hand gave me was the one thing that kept me calm.
Trixy's fingers were soft but steady, her touch grounding me in a way no other could. I returned her hand a soft squeeze, a wordless promise that she could count on me to be here for her always.
"Nothing terrible will happen," I assured her, my voice low but confident. "I got your back."
Her eyes brightened and her lips parted to reveal a tender smile.
That was all she needed. That smile was capable of making me lower my guard faster than any sword, and it could also patch up the injuries of my heart that I didn't even realize I had.
Sydnee sitting opposite us, groaned theatrically, "You two are beyond adorable. Seriously! Do you want ants? Because that's how you get."
Trixy, blushing, gave a half-hearted smile, and the grin didn't disappear from her face. And me? I couldn't bring myself to look away.
