CHAPTER 184
The atmosphere stank of chemicals and the faint metallic tang of blood. The wolf lay unconscious inside the reinforced cage, her chest rising and falling with slow, tremulous breaths. The sound alone made the doctors flinch.
They moved around her cautiously, gloved hands trembling as they inserted the needles. Every shallow inhale from the beast sent a shiver down their spines. The chains at her wrists rattled softly each time the tubes filled with her blood—thick, darker than any they'd seen. They worked quickly, exchanging silent glances, urgency battling fear.
When the final bag sealed shut, one of them exhaled shakily. The lead scientist turned toward the camera. "We've got it, General." The man said.
"Take it straight to the lab. I'll be there."
The scientists hurried out, clutching the precious samples like they were handling explosives.
