Chapter 2 - The Child is Born

The angel Poseidon watching and waiting in a small hospital in the mountains of Colorado, anticipating the arrival of a new earthly child. Poseidon grew bored with the long wait when all of a sudden a small new family burst through the door of the emergency room, " Quick I need a doctor for my wife she is going into labor!" The new dad to be shouted. Soon after nurses and doctors came rushing to the aid of the man and woman. They put her onto a stretcher and hauled her off to the delivery room.

While the baby was rushed to the nursery the man was escorted out of the delivery room and into the waiting area and waited for what seemed like forever. Poseidon could hear his prayers and his pleas with God for safety and health of his family on the other side of the door. A doctor comes out calls the man to him. It seemed urgent and pressing. The man shaking with just the thought of the doctor's presence on this side of that door instilled anxiety into him not knowing what the doctor was going say. To the mans confusion the doctor half heartedly congratulated him on becoming a father to healthy baby boy.

Poseidon watched as the man burst into tears of joy over the news of his new baby. The angel of the sea now puzzled by the somber attitude of the doctor braves himself for more news from the doctor. Poseidon then witnessed something he never thought he would see again. The doctor reached his arm out placing his hand on the shoulder of the new father and braces himself for the news he was about to break to him. The man then fell to his knees now weeping with tears of sorrow instead of joy. "I'm sorry sir, but we did everything we could." The doctor said with sadness in their voice.

"What happened? How did it happen? Where is my wife?" The man said with a lump in his throat.

Poseidon closed his eyes to experience only moments earlier; "That's it I'm calling it, we've done everything possible here. Nurse call time of death." The nurse looks to their watch and states the time of death. The doctor starts to remove his gloves and gown so he can break the news to the man that was escorted to the waiting area just moments before.

Poseidon opens his eyes to see that the doctor was explaining the complications they encountered during the delivery. The doctor explains he did everything in his power to save her life and even how he fought to bring her back. The angel turns his attention at this point to the baby boy in the nursery and gently moves in that direction to see the new life that had just entered the world.

"You are going to be strong and brave young one." Poseidon says with hushed tone. Before departing he leaves the boy with one of his feathers.

The father leaves the hospital on doctors orders to get some rest and come back the following day to discuss what he will do with his son. The angel followed the man home. The man walked in the front door and up the stairs to his room where he laid his head on his pillow. Exhausted and out of energy the man fell asleep, the angel sat in the room and watched over this man while he slept.

The man awoke to a new a day, but with sorrow still in his heart over the loss of his wife he need what he must do. Poseidon was already at the hospital with the baby just sitting with him and the nurse who was feeding him. The angel was excited to see that the man had come back for his son.

In the coming days the new father had learned all the basics of taking care of a new born baby. Before the man new it he was taking the baby home with him. When they arrived at the house the man noticed that baby was tired and ready for a nap. He laid the baby down in his crib and then laid himself down on his own bed down the hall.

Poseidon sneaks up the stairs in a more physical form so that he may bless the child he was sent down to protect. As he approached the crib where the baby was sleeping he saw that his name was etched into the crib "Tad, huh such a great name for you little one." As the angel finished the sentence he heard that the father had gotten up and was rushing in his direction. Poseidon not worried turned around and met the mans eyes and said, " Do not fear me, my name is Poseidon and I am angel sent from God to watch over and protect Tad, I am his guardian angel." As those last words left the angels mouth he faded out and into the cool winter afternoon sun. The man awoke hours later back in his bed to the sound of his son crying for food. Was that a dream or was it real? The man pondered the thought while making a bottle for his son, by the time he got back up the stairs and into Tad's room he had dismissed the idea entirely and left it in God's hands.
