Chapter 481 - Just As Boys Do

They looked to where she was pointing in disbelief as the two were dancing among the other students in a traditional dance. The two then had a conversation with a smile on their faces as Riddle pointed out, "It seems the two are getting along."

Peony grumbled, "Just as boys do. They are always so competitve. It seems Rollo is not going to give up on his ideas that easily. This is annoying..."

"Ah, so you mean..." Azul grumbled, "He's still going to erase magic from this world?"

"Ask your friend that. I'm sure he could either hear them or read their lips." She pointed out.

"Oui. However, it's unfortunate as I was not paying attention." He replied.

Trein sighed, "I had hoped the two could put aside their differences. But, perhaps, my expectations were a little too high."

She shook her head, "Unfortunately or not, those two are getting along since they choose to maintain this friendly relation. If not, they would not even choose to interact right now, would they? No matter the situation, nothing is impossible. It all matters in whether you are willing to or not. Right now, the fact that they're willing to talk with one another is already them getting along. Like children after a bicker. Whether they will continue to get along or not really depends on them. Malleus had already accepted his challenge knowing what he meant full well. So, neither two are going to back down. Sebek, put away your pen or I will inform your mother that you ended up leaving Malleus with the others during last night's incident instead."

"Huh?" Silver looked to her in surprise, "You know the Zigvolt family?"

"I am acquainted with them. Yes. It was the lady's father who helped my parents find a human lawyer with my adoption process when the queen handed down the decision." She explained, "Before I began my study abroad, it was the Zigvolt couple who helped me integrate into the human society. A lot of the people who came to help the royal family during and after my adoption was recommended by Zigvolt and the Draconia family. I think my case simply piqued their curiosity. They did tell me to make sure Sebek and Silver doesn't get themselves into trouble, but I hardly doubt that'd be the case. I wonder why my attendant keeps saying otherwise. As long as you don't get carried away, that's fine and you have no problem with it. Seriously, what was the point in me having to keep an eye on the two of you."

"I'm curious." Jamil pondered curiously, "What does your attendant tell you?"

"Hm?" She tilted her head, "That Sebek is too loud that he drowns out his master's words or that Silver is so soft that, even if they are important or good idea, he'd decide not to repeat it for fear that it was a bad idea. However, last night, Silver made a good choice to stay back and withhold the flowers. Sebek also listened to Silver's suggestion, so, really, just what was the problem? Other than that, my attendant doesn't seem to see you two in a good light. I suggest you be a little careful not to set her off. Though she won't harm anyone without my permission, she doesn't seem to enjoy others who don't take their roles seriously. Whatever it was that Sebek said seemed to have set her off on an angered tangent. Something about may as well have glue a statue of Malleus to your forehead or something."

She sighed, "Whatever was the case, I've already handed her a warning and notified Malleus. Knowing you, however, I believe there's nothing to worry about. Things like this happens after. However, please don't threaten someone when your master already gave his decision, Sebek. You're just going to go against his orders if you start screaming at them."

"And why should I listen to you?" Sebek glared at her.

"Sebek!" Silver hissed at him quietly, "Remember the day in the courtyard with Savanaclaw dormleader? Before we left for Vargas camp?"

 "Gr..." Sebek shut up reluctantly.

Peony sighed, "This did not happen. Speaking of which, I already spoke too much today too. I'll take my leave instead. I'll take my leave now."

After watching her turn around and leave, they were about to go back to the party when Idia paused and glanced back once more. If it's Peony, she wouldn't be so cold, right? He shook his head and grumbled, "That'd just be some character development if she'd change this much."

The Peony he knew was kind and considerate. Not cold and detached. Moreover, there's no telling if she has the same red hair as when they were kids. It was then he noticed Rollo notice her talking on the phone with a cup of juice. Looks like she got another important call with the op characters again. However, why was Rollo going over to her? He noticed her snap her fingers as the two disappeared from the scene.

.....

Once outside, Rollo looked around and frowned, "Magic again?"

"Whatever you wish to call it." She huffed in disdain, "You said you wish to know what would be discussed at the trial?"

He shook his head, "Since the discussion would be of the event last night, I wish to understand whether I would have a case carrier on that day or not."

"Of course." She huffed, "However, what would be discussed would not just be about the event last night."

"Huh?" Rollo tilted his head in confusion.

Peony folded her arms and grumbled solemnly, "The headmage is stepping down from his position."

"What?!" He looked to her with eyes wide in disbelief, "Although that is important, last night's event-"

"Would be tied into this case." She responded as she grumbled, "Along with it, two clueless offenders would be pulled down in this trial."

"What do you mean?" Rollo tilted his head in confusion.

She frowned, "Listen well. Complain however you want later when you have a one on one talk with the old man."

She opened her mouth, "Let's see. The trial is not just about what you did last night. The trial will choose the next headmage of Nobel Bell college and High Judge of the Magic Council."

"The headmage is the judge of the Magic Council?" He looked to her in disbelief.

She nodded, "You should try comparing this school to other arcane school when you started enrolling here. This school loosely specializes in Magic. Or rather they do what can help a student lead a decent life at the very least. Yet, why does an arcane school such as this one not get on the watchlist by the Magic council? The point of an arcane school is the teach Magic but this school focuses mainly on the law and other more important lessons in the eyes of the regular folk? The answer is simple. Nobel Bell College was created with the main goal of raising arcane students to take on other important positions in the daily life, from the law to the medicine and art. However, all fields are involved with magic. The duties of the headmage is very important. They not only represent the school and care for the studies of the students, but they are responsible with the safety of Fluercity and the duties as high judge of the Magic Council. That is the secret of the position of the headmage."

"The position of headmage was so important?" Rollo looked to her in disbelief, "However, the current headmage is going to walk away from all of this?"

Disappointed, she scoffed at him and flicked his forehead, "You're a genius, aren't you? Think about it! How often does the headmage leave the school ground? Let me inform you that just a few weeks ago, the headmage of Night Raven College was summoned by the Magic Council and Board of Education. However, rather than a high judge, the seat had been empty. Where was the headmage during that time?!"

"What?!" Rollo hesitated, "H-he was… visiting the bell tower… that whole week, he never left the school grounds. He almost never leaves the school grounds! Why would-?"

Suddenly, the conversation from last night flashed into his mind as he was taken aback in horror, "N-no way… You mean, the current headmage is a fake?!"

He grimaced as he pieced everything together, "So that's why you told me not to get in his line of sight. However why would he go to the bell tower so often? And why reveal everything to me?"

She shook her head, "Let's continue where I left off and then you'll start to understand where you come in in all of this."

She pulled out a couple of chairs and placed them at the corner of the square. She forced Rollo to sit and continued as she took her seat next to him while he tried not to look dumbfounded by what she just did, "The duties of the headmage of Nobel Bell College includes protecting the people and the young ones, guiding all magicians and children, and care for the bell artifact. Each generations are required to prepare a last will as the headmage and high judge for the next generation when they take up the mantle. However, just as the position of headmage was not simple neither was the process to decide the next headmage. It is by tradition that each generations take in a pupil under their wings and guide them into becoming the next headmage. Each generations are required to take on two or more pupils and when the time comes, they write down their will and decide the next headmage through a jury trial. This trial evaluate their entire experience with magic and, with this ability, the headmage must make a decision."

"That's fascinating…" Rollo muttered in surprise, "However, what does that have to do with me?"

Peony grumbled, "Unfortunately, the real headmage of this generation made a bet with his old friend, the magic council president and his former rival. This time, both the president and the former candidate would choose the next candidates but decided to keep the fact they are candidates a secret from everyone, including the candidates themselves."

"They never told the candidates of the matter either?!"
