Like an executioners beheading sword, the blades fell like black lightning.
The scythe demoness, initially wondering whether she should go help the right side or keep holding the left, was surprised to suddenly see 5 metal blades fall at her all of the sudden.
The hesitation lasted for a fraction of a second; being a master of the blade herself, she swiftly pulled all 6 of her scythe arms up and crossed them in defense just before the enemies blades fell onto her.
"Schreeee!"
The impact was heavy, heavier than anything she had ever felt before.
Her body and centipede legs were pushed deep into the ground as she slid back. Her mandibles released a strange screech as snapping sounds came from her scythe arms; sparks and blood shot out.
"Raghhh!" A primal roar escaped her mandibles.
A black miasma radiated off her body as she forcible pushed back with all her might and rage. The 5 blades creaked against her 6 as the berserkers were slowly being pushed back, but the speed at which they were pushed back increased.
Her strength was something unexpected, causing the berserkers to dodge in surprise. Still, one was too slow and got hit by the attack, his body flew back into the distant demon horde.
The other 4 demons took the opportunity to move past the injured demoness and chased after Roh.
From revealing themselves, to attacking, to moving past the scythe demoness; it was all a single fluid motion, the armored demons never stopped for even a second.
They were on the opposite side from where Adam stood, and were only several meters behind the dashing Roh.
The heavy armor only made them slightly slower than Roh, but once they reached the obelisk, Roh would be at their mercy.
Adam had watched what happened as he kicked an unarmed berserker demon back into the incoming horde, a deep anger bubbled within as he saw the 4 demons move beyond the defense line; the gates have been breached.
His arrogance and lack of caution had led to this point.
The 10 unequipped elites were rushing towards Adam's position, in hopes of a couple dashing past him, only being a short distance away, while a group of 4 fully equipped elites had just passed the defensive line, and were chasing close behind Roh, who was trying to close the opening, and to defend the pedestal.
Kamir's unspoken plan to lure Adam towards one side had worked perfectly.
Adam took a split second to reflect on his neglect, a cold anger replacing the earlier amusement.
He had underestimated the demons' cunning, and it had led to a moment of pure, pathetic vulnerability.
His subordinates were injured, and the barrier was at risk of falling.
The 10 unarmed warriors were like a hot knife cutting through butter, closing the distance at incredible speeds, while Roh and the other 4 quickly closed in on the nexus.
'I got complacent.' Adams eyes hardened.
To fight these 10 back first or to chase after the 4 armored demons?
The decision wasn't hard to make.
His figure turned into a blur and chased towards the pedestal, his only hope that the defense of his subordinates could hold the rampant demons long enough.
With a speed that defied their understanding, Adam's figure turned into a blur, his powerful legs propelling him forward.
The 10 demons were at his side, about to attack, but Adam ignored them as he bypassed the unarmed elites without a glance, leaving them stunned for a moment before they recovered and gave chase.
Adam's speed was much greater than that of peak rank 1 demons, unless they specialized in speed, leaving their figures in the dust.
Quickly, the backs of the armored brutes were in front of him.
The four fully-armored berserkers, their backs to him, had long passed the front lines, their heavy steel armored boots pounding the earth with a rhythmic, destructive intent.
All of the berserkers sent this time had humanoid figures.
They were only a short distance behind Roh, who was now racing toward the pedestal, his every muscle screaming as he pushed past his limits. Desperate to reach the pedestal and close the barrier.
Adam could feel the desperation in his subordinate, the fear of failure, the rage to move forward.
Suddenly, one of the chasing armored berserkers turned around and roared while unleashing a full force attack at Adam with a massive halberd, the attack turning into a black flash with miasma trailing behind; launching a powerful, focused attack to slow him down.
The attack was slightly unexpected, but the gap in strength wasn't something that could be closed by metal weapons or armor.
Adam turned his body slightly, making the attack miss as he pushed his palm forward in a quick flash.
He has never fought before, but his body moved instinctively, and he didn't fight his instincts, letting his body flow like water.
"Fupth!"
The pain from smacking the hard abyssal steel coursed through his arm as the berserker was launched into the ground.
Not even a dent covered the metals surface.
Although the armor's durability surprised him, Adam didn't have the time to admire it, as he quickly shook the pain off of his arm and ran towards the other 3 demons, a hint of urgency and annoyance on his face.
The single action took a second, no more, but it was a crucial second he couldn't afford.
In the short time it took to deal with the demon, Roh and the others have already enlarged the distance by over 100 meters.
When Adam caught up again, another demon split off and attacked.
The second berserker turned, his halberd aimed low, at Adam's legs.
Adam, having expected this, leapt over the sweeping blade, the air whistling past his ankles, and landed a heavy kick to the back of the berserker's knee. The demon's leg buckled, his body collapsing to the ground with a grunt of pain.
Adam didn't stop, his momentum carrying him forward, able to see Roh and the other berserker reach the pedestal from his peripherals just as the third berserker turned towards him.
With an unyielding will, the demon launched an attack meant to overwhelm him, roaring as he slashed towards Adam's head.
"Whoosh!"
The blade tore through the air with a sharp whistle.
With a shift of his body, Adam easily ducked under blade, letting it sail harmlessly over his head, and used the opportunity to launch a powerful punch into the berserker's gut. The blow sent the armored demon flying, his body slamming into a rock wall.
A faint, dull, pain coursed from his aching arms.
The constant clashes against the invulnerable abyssal steel had started to be a source of annoyance for Adam; the seemingly unbreakable abyssal steel sent strong shockwaves of rebound force every time he struck.
Yet pain had no place in a time of urgency.
With a final vicious strike to the back of the demons head, the demon was knocked unconscious, and Adam launched towards the obelisks's base.
Adrenaline and calmness mixed into one as he dashed his way up the steps.
By the time Adam reached the base of the pedestal, the last armored elite was already there, but luckily, he made it just in time.
