Mikey pointed at her nose unconsciously while staring at her with big eyes. ''Me?''
The woman sighed and walked quickly towards her. ''Yes, you. I will need help tonight. I will pay you by the hour we spend together. You are probably one of the rookies so you can learn a few things from me. Good idea to stand there and listen to our information. I did that before as well.''
The whole amount of words made by Mikey flabbergasted. Should she? She was curious as well.
''I want to help you, but there is a slight problem. We should prepare for before going. Listening to the words it is better if we could prepare whole gear, including camping gear. Maybe we will need to stay inside for a couple of days. I have no intention of sleeping on the floor. Its not a war zone.'' With a big smile, she explained the young woman her realistic plans.
''Good. You prepare your gear I will prepare mine. Do not take anything that could make big sounds.'' She hated dogs and if there are some they will need to run fast.
''Fine. I will prepare for my bag. What about you?'' Mikey was completely into adventure mode now. ''Should I prepare two bags?''
The woman flicked her head. ''Idiot. I have one bag always ready. Come here at 9.00 pm. I will wait for you there. If you are not on time, I'll go alone. Understood?''
Mikey just nodded with a big smile. ''I understand.''
This could be considered her first job where she could keep her own money and learn new things.
Soon she saw miss Smith coming back with a strange expression. ''Mikey, I am truly sorry. I do not think this will work...''
''Miss Smith, I just got myself another job. I will work for the tv station with one reporter. And I will be paid good money. So do not worry. At first, I will rent a room and then I will check for an apartment. When I settled down I promise I will call you and let you know.'' She patted her arm as she could see her complicated expression.
Miss Smith just sighed. ''Nearby is one small hotel that rents rooms cheaply. When my family was visiting m for my wedding I rented the whole hotel. It is cute, clean and safe. I will go and pay for a whole week for you. You will get some money on your account from the state. And the money that the state owned you from before. You are a good girl and I am sure you can live just fine with it.''
''I hope this is the job for me. If not, I am having tow healthy arms. I can wash dishes, cook, serve or go to work in the store. I am not afraid of work, miss Smith. Please relax. I will be fine. I survived my stepmother, I can survive everything else.''
Her last words were like a knife stabbing her heart so miss Smith went with her to the nearby hotel and with a smile transferred enough money for a whole week of staying inside. ''If you don't find a job or apartment, let me know, please. I will find something. If there is no other choice, I'll just take you with me back home and give you the room above the garage. ''
Mikey had to laugh this time and just nodded. ''Fine, miss Smith. If there are no other options I will call you. Let's hope I don't have too. Right?''
Looking at her positive attitude and huge smile miss Smith sighed and hugged her. ''Mikey, if you ever need me, please do not be shy, I promise I will be there for you. Ok?''
Mikey nodded. ''Don't worry miss Smith. I will.''
Miss Smith sat down in her car and rushed away as she had so much paperwork to do and this time, she might be able to come a home a bit earlier.
Mikey went to the room and had to admit that the room was really cute. It was nothing big. Cozy bed, huge mirror, big closet, chair and table. On top of the table stood a small plate filled with sweets and a glass jug with clean water inside. One door was to the outside and the other door?
She opened the door and as she assumed it was a tiny but clean bathroom. Well, it is enough for her.
Mikey looked at the small bag she held in her hand. It was the ''clothes'' she wore before. It was time to throw them away and buy new clothes. Suddenly she remembered the two envelopes.
The first was from the old lady. With a huge smile, she took the stack with one-dollar bills. The old lady knew she loved snacks but had no money to buy. "How cute." There were a thousand bills so she felt quite grateful.
The other envelope looked thinner but had big numbers inside. "Doctors have quite a money indeed."
Hundreds, the fifties and twenties. After counting it she was stunned. One thousand as well? Who would have thought? Then she remembered what miss Smith said. There should be some money on her account as well?
She pucked her small bag stuffed the larger money inside. The smaller bills she hid behind the closet. Then she went out after greeting the kind lady on shelter. ''Miss Lakos, I will be gone for a little while. May I ask is there a closing time or can I come back whenever I want?''
''Don't worry. We have a night shift as well. You can come and go however your job lets you.'' Miss Lakos was kind olf lady and miss Smith told her that Mikey will work often in the future so she gave her cheaper price.
Thinking about it, actually, it would be cheaper for her to stay here than to rent an apartment. It's clean, she has at price included electricity and water... what else do you need?
She knew that nearby was her bank as she could see it in passing. Luckily she was used to walking so fifteen minutes later she arrived in front of huge bank. With easy steps, she went inside and went to the bank shelter.
The young man sat there and looked at her calmly behind his thick eyeglasses. ''Good morning miss. How may I help you?''
Mikey took out her bank card and her savings book. ''I would like to ask how much money is on my account and how much is left on my savings account.''
Once her '' mother'' stole her bank savings account where she saved bits of money and took it all to buy huge amounts of stuff she would ever need in her life.
He took her bank card and savings account card and started typing on his computer. After a few moments, he turned his eyes toward her and calmly spoke the numbers that shocked him to the core. ''Your account holds the big sum of money should I write it for you?'' He was careful as many people stood behind waiting. Luckily his voice was not big so she quickly nodded.
He wrote the numbers for both accounts and passed it to her. First, she blinked then she stared at him and then she blinked at numbers again. ''Sir, is there some mistake. I should have gotten just a few hundreds as help from the state...''
He calmly checked his computer and sighed. ''You indeed got a few thousand from the state but the rest of money is from someone with name Olis. You know someone?''
It suddenly dawned on her. It was not what she got in her envelope, that was literally her snack money, the real gift was here, but why? She needs to find out, soon.
''Thank you. That is all.'' She gave him a bright smile and left him speechless while walking with new energy out of the bank. This life seems really something amazing.
