The hallways were so quiet that even tho they were trying to be quiet their steps could be heard. But that was it. Nat showed to her to follow her.
Trough open windows some light from street lights gave them enough vision to move forward without problems. Mikey just followed Nat not knowing where they actually were going to.
The hallway was long, filled with open rooms. Every room had a bunch of toys. Big rooms were changed into teaching rooms or main rooms. Everywhere was a sign of playful children.
Mikey could imagine the number of children running around, laughing and playing. Yes, she wanted to join in. But this job has its own perks as well.
Strangely, there was no sound of anyone. Why was not even police here?
Even Nat was feeling strange anxiousness. Would they leave this place unattended? She wanted to go first to the attic and open base. From there she wanted to check every floor, one by one.
From her friend in the police, she found out that the teachers and children didn't appear again. Maybe she should be even more careful. Everything happened actually on the second floor. Should they put up some hidden cameras there?
''Mikey. I do not see one police officer here. they might be watching from outside. By my information, they checked everything from top to bottom and didn't find one thing. We should work floor by floor. I heard that everyone disappeared on the second floor. Let's plant couple cams there and then move to the attic to make basecamp.'' Nat hurried now as it was clear that there was absolutely anyone inside.
Mikey just followed. Wasn't Nat older and more knowledgeable about these things, she should just follow and learn. With that state of mind, she rushed behind Nat to the second floor and soon they were stunned.
The whole floor was sealed. Doors were literally under the seal and covered with sort of plastic cover.
They looked at each other in surprise and went closer. ''Did they got all killed but government and police are covering it?'' Mikey was curious.
''There is that possibility. then what about a poison attack or something similar. Why would they cover the doors in plastic?'' Nat opened her bag and took the mask out but when she rose her head she could see Mikey already putting her own on the face. ''Nice!''
''Of course.'' Mikey was already ready for any possibility. Almost any.
''Then let's go.'' Neither one of them found the seal on the door to be bothersome and they just scraped it off with a knife and entered the hallway.
''What the hell really happened here?'' Whole floor, doors, windows, ceiling, everything was covered with plastic. But the strange thing was not that. It was the orb that floated in mid of room. It was surrounded by multiple cameras and few men in full-body protection were checking te computer data not even taking notice of their entry.
Nat and Mikey turned around and could see a small opening in plastic leading to one of the small rooms. The turned around and slipped in. The sounds of computers, cameras, and printers covered their steps and movements. And after all, who would b that crazy to get inside in mid of night and brake the seal. But why was there no one guarding?
They had no time to think about it. As soon they closed the door, Nat took out few minicams from the side pocket of the backpack and was about to get out when she heard talking.
''It is starting to turn again. The frequencies are getting stronger. If this continues or this thing will explode or disappear. We need to get the children and teachers out, asap.''
''But no one wants to get inside. Who would dare? Even those military men do not wish to be connected to this. You remember how many of those soldiers and policemen got hurt only by getting close?''
''You know what is strange? Only females got sucked in. Not even one boy was hurt or taken in.''
''But there were female soldiers there, why couldn't they enter?''
''Monica, you are female, somehow. Why don't you get in?''
''Idiot. I tried and nothing worked.''
''We will try.'' Suddenly a voice behind them resounded and they almost jumped out their skin out fear.
Two women wearing strange clothes stood there and smiled at them. ''Who are you?''
''We are reporters from the local news. You said only women can enter? If we get to enter inside, how can you get us out?'' Nat was visually nervous.
''We found a frequency that could get you out. But you do not have much time. You need to rush inside. It seems that this thing is gettings smaller and soon it will disappear.'' One of the scientists explained.
Mikey sighed. She made a call. ''Mr. Hoffmann, I have a favor to ask. I think I am in a dangerous situation now. I would like to transfer the money to your account until I am not back to safety. In case something happens to me, please transfer the funds to the orphanage. I think miss Olis would not mind.''
''Wait, Mikey, let me send the police there. I can help you.'' It seems he was almost asleep when she called him.
''No. I am with the police now. Just do what I tell you. Ok?'' Mikey smiled one more time and cut the line. She turned her eyes towards the older woman. ''My name is Mikey Shiri. I am scared but the life of those children are more important now. Could you please let know Mr. Hoffman about me, just in case something happens. Ok?''
''Is he your lawyer?'' the old woman quickly wrote her name while Mikey was transferring the money back to the account it was sent from. As an answer, she got a nod and a hum. ''I will do that then.''
They stood in front of the sphere and waited. Suddenly a burst of light came out of it and blinded them, a slight wave of nausea appeared in Mikey's chest and as she opened her eyes...
