Hi, this was the first ever work, maybe it's time for it to see light again ?? :D
-------
In a dark place, where there was no sound to hear and nothing to see, a figure sat on the ground thinking about the life he had and how it had ended so fast. Zane, an orphan who grew up on the streets, had never seen his parents or even a single family member. He named himself "Zane" when he was five years old after getting jealous of the other children who had family names. In his childhood, he never had a friend; he was always alone. The only person he considered family was an old man who had picked him up from the street and raised him. But the old man died after Zane turned three, so he started wandering the streets with nowhere to go. Sometimes, kind people would give him something to eat, and other times, he would starve for days.
Time passed, and Zane was now 28 years old, living in a dirty, old room for which he barely managed to pay the rent. He worked for a construction company that paid him $130 a month. He had worked there for 14 years, and his pay hadn't increased a bit; only the work had gotten harder over time.
Zane got up early, washed his face, put on his plain clothes, and ate a piece of old bread and half a cup of milk before going to work. He left the old building where he rented a room and started humming a song he'd heard on the radio on his way to work. Suddenly, he saw a large crowd gathered near a building. Curious, he got closer to see what was happening. Zane asked someone,
Zane: "Brother, what's happening here?"
Stranger: "A boy is trying to commit suicide."
Zane: "What? Then call the police! Why are you all just standing here doing nothing?"
The stranger answered with a hint of dissatisfaction, "Humph, we already called the police and the ambulance 30 minutes ago, but they still haven't shown up."
Zane: "Oh. Why does the kid want to commit suicide?"
This time, another person answered with a sad voice. "Brother, this kid's name is Mickey. He's 14 years old and an orphan. His parents died when he was young, and his uncle raised him. I heard that every night his uncle would beat him until his skin was black and blue. The only time he got away from his uncle was at school, but even there, a bunch of bullies would beat him up. Eventually, his mentality broke, and now he's trying to end his life. What a poor kid, sigh." The stranger sighed and turned his face away.
Zane: <…>
Ah, what a poor boy. A little boy like him deserves a good education and a peaceful life, but orphans like us can only dream about a life without difficulty, without pain.
Zane sighed and bowed his head with a sad expression, remembering all the pain he'd endured from childhood until now. He never had parents to love him or a friend to help him through this rough life. But in the next second, he heard a scream.
"Oh no, he's jumping!"
"Quickly, someone try to catch him!"
But who in their right mind would try to do that? Even if the person didn't die, they would definitely be crippled for life.
Zane, with a face full of sadness and fear, didn't even think. He sped up and spread his arms to catch the boy. But unluckily for him, the boy didn't fall into his arms. It would have been the luckiest thing if that had happened, even though he knew he'd have to sacrifice his arms to save the kid's life. Instead of his arms, the boy crashed into his chest at high speed, which twisted Zane's body and made his head hit the ground hard.
The next thing he saw was a dark, empty place. He knew he had lost his life. With a grieving voice, he said, "I died… Why am I so sad? I always wanted my life to end. I didn't have anything in my life; I didn't lose anything. So why am I crying?"
Tears started to flow from his eyes as he thought about his life. In his entire life, he had never experienced the meaning of "joy." The only thing he had was pain.
After a few minutes, he accepted his fate and calmed himself down. Then he looked around to see where he was.
Where am I? Is this it?
Only an empty space.
Ugh, even after death, I'm still alone.
Do I have to float in this endless space forever? Oh, no, wait.
Only then did he realize that he was touching the ground under him. Because of the darkness, he couldn't even see his body; he could only sense it.
This isn't a void. So where am I?
Voice: "Ding. Host is currently locked inside a room in the mansion of the previous owner of your body."
Zane: "Wait, who said that? Who are you? And what do you mean by the previous owner of my body?"
