Chapter 91 - Intolerable

" Grandpa, it's Wang Yong. Can I come in? " Wang Yong gently knocked on the door of his grandfather' study.

" Come in. " Wang Feng was previously informed that his grandson was asking about his whereabouts and already expected him.

" Grandpa, how have you been? " Wang Yong approached the man sitting in his rocking chair.

" Hmph! So you do know how to call me grandpa! " Wang Feng harrumphed but a smile lingered on his lips.

" What do you mean this time? " Wang Yong pulled out a chair and sat next to his grandfather.

" I thought that after cutting contact for so long you wouldn't even recognize your own grandfather. You even knew to come home, who are you? " Wang Feng stared at the young man and scoffed before removing his gaze quickly. An ungrateful grandson who never comes to visit!

Wang Yong looked at his grandfather acting like a child and exasperatedly sighed. His grandparents took great care of him when he was younger and he knew very well how much he was adored by them but he couldn't stay by their side forever.

" Grandpa, I am sorry. I was wrong, I should have called you and grandma more often. I was too caught up with work and forgot. Can you forgive me? I'll do better in the future. " Wang Yong reached out to hold his grandpa's hand and gently smiled.

Wang Feng finally eased up and dropped the pretentious act after being placated. " Good. next time I don't hear from you for 3 months, I am personally dragging you away from work. "

Wang Yong smiled at his grandpa's words but his eyes slightly darkened, " Actually... this time there is a good reason as to why I didn't contact you. That's why I came to see you in person. I need your help grandpa. "

Wang Feng finally turned his head completely and looked seriously at his grandson, " Tell me. "

...

" Ruoruo, where are you going? " Hui Yin saw her daughter getting ready to leave with casual clothes.

" I am going to visit an orphanage. " Zhi Ruo put on her shoes and casually answered.

" Since when do you visit orphanages? " Hui Yin curiously walked up to their door entrance to question her daughter.

" I just thought it would be good to spend my time on something else than work. Volunteering is pretty nice. " Zhi Ruo lightly smiled.

Truth be told, Zhi Ruo sometimes missed her old world. It wasn't the best life, but it was her life. There were good things part of her past life. And part of that positive was that she got to help out at her old orphanage and give back to people who are like her.

Now that she wasn't an orphan anymore and had a warm family, guilt sometimes washes over her and she can't help but feel like she needs to be doing more to give back.

" Okay, don't tire yourself too much. " Hui Yin calmly smiled at her daughter. She felt like her daughter had changed in these recent days but she couldn't quite point a finger on what, she just hoped her daughter stayed happy and healthy. " Don't come back too late. "

Zhi Ruo hugged her mother goodbye and walked out.

...

Zhi Ruo thought she would be somewhat relaxing while taking care of the kids but looking at the full-grown man in front of her covered in flour and ruining her cookies for the third time she wanted to resign, "..."

" Do you have a problem with me Mr. Leon?" Zhi Ruo put down the bowl she was mixing and exasperatedly looked at the man trying his best to pat off all the flour on him.

" Do you really need to take it out on my cookies? When the children come back, they are the ones who are going to suffer the loss. " Zhi Ruo's confused face tried to reason with the jittery man.

The man heard her words and turned glacial, " You got it wrong. I don't have a problem with you. I just..."

Zhi Ruo patiently waited for him to come up with an excuse, ' Let's see what kind of excuse he can come up with to justify murdering my cookies over and over. The cookies are innocent, leave them alone! '

" Just... I have never baked before... I am sorry. " Li Wei explains like a guilty child.

Zhi Ruo's eyes widen and stare at him in shock before giggling happily. She teases lightly, " I don't think even people who haven't baked before would do as poorly as you. "

Li Wei pauses at her adorable giggle and feels his cheeks turning pink from embarrassment, " I suppose I am talented in my own way. "

Zhi Ruo smiles adorably, " Don't worry, I'll teach you, just follow my instructions precisely. And if the children complain...I'll pin all the blame on you! "

Li Wei's eyes soften as he gazes at Zhi Ruo, a conflicting feeling arising in his heart. On one hand, he is glad to see Zhi Ruo happy and enjoys befriending her. On the other hand, he felt a pit in his stomach as he realized that she was genuinely kind and that she only treated him this way because she didn't know he was Li Wei, the man she despised. Was he that intolerable?

Was there truly no possible future for them?
