Chapter 90 - Death's Doorstep

At the airport, Zhi Ruo adjusted her big sunglasses and yawned as she strutted out of the airport.

Zhi Chao, who had come to pick her up, finally saw his sister and waved at her. He walked towards her with his arms wide open ready for a hug.

Zhi Ruo smiled and happily dove into his arms, its quite nice to have siblings!

Zhi Chao ruffled her hair and naturally took her suitcase, " Welcome back, is this all? "

He looked behind Zhi Ruo but couldn't find any other baggage such as a certain big teddy bear following her.

" Yeah, the rest was shipped back so it'll probably be delivered to our house later. " Zhi Ruo casually answered and hooked her arm around her brother's arm, ready to leave the airport.

" Okay... and what happened to the clingy man that followed you? Did you abandon him already? " Zhi Chao quirked up an eyebrow.

It's not that Zhi Chao didn't like Wang Yong. He actually came to appreciate him quite a lot after spending time with him and working with him. Wang Yong was a quick learner, humble, and very competent. His personality was also very agreeable and their sense of humor matched well due to their close age.

However, Zhi Chao couldn't lie and say that he did not dislike the fact that the grown man was attached to his sister like a bear to a honey pot. Outside of work, the new friend was always trailing behind the little girl like a tail and casually touched her like his family had no eyes. It was clear as water that the bear was vying for his little sister. Hmph!

He was on guard at first but he still felt like he should respect his little sister's wishes.

If Wang Yong succeeded, he wouldn't be angry but if Zhi Ruo wanted to kick him to the curb, Zhi Chao would fully support his sister's choices! ' Hmph! Who told his sister to be so loveable? '

Zhi Ruo who had no idea of her brother's train of thought answered lightly, " He is going to go see his grandpa in another city. "

" When is he going to be back? " Zhi Chao asked.

" I don't know, it depends on what he needs to do. " Zhi Ruo answered perfunctorily as they arrived to the car.

Zhi Chao looked at his sister and wondered if she really didn't care as much as she portrayed. Knowing that she didn't want to discuss this matter anymore, Zhi Chao calmly changed the subject and opened the car door for her, " Mom and Dad missed you. They were worried you weren't truly resting so be patient with them when they bombard you with questions, okay? "

Zhi Ruo's eyes curved into crescents as she thought about her worrywart parents and lightly nodded, " Let them come for me, I am ready for war!"

...

After surviving the battle of questions from her parents, Zhi Ruo tiredly plopped onto the bed and buried her face in her pillow, ' So embarrassing, it's barely been a couple of hours and I already miss him this much... '

Zhi Ruo felt the need to revisit her previous standards for a marriage proposal, ' At this point, I will give in too easily. I need to brace myself. '

She quietly clenched her fist in encouragement for herself, ' Stay strong! ' and as she repeated her self-warnings in her mind, she dozed off.

...

Wang Feng peered out the window and calmly rocked on his chair while sipping his tea. Time had left traces on his face but he still looked as fierce as in his younger days. Deep in thought, his eyes stared fixedly at the swaying tree outside.

Wang Feng considered himself lucky in this lifetime. His strict parents caused him to join the military from a young age. Although it was a means to escape, Wang Feng truly felt fulfilled by his work, feeling like he made a difference in the world. He learned about tenacity and courage while risking his life and came to appreciate the small things in life.

He rose through the military ranks quite quickly but when he injured his leg, he brokenheartedly left to work in business. Stroke of luck, his company flourished and remained strong after 40 years. He got married to a lovely lady and had two sons. What was to regret?

Alas, there was a rock weighing on his heart. When his first and only grandchild was born, Wang Feng promised himself that he would hold the little treasure in his palm and support him every step of the way.

But life never goes as planned and his precious grandson constantly wore out his heart from stress. He was scared that with each update he got from his grandson, the quicker he walked towards death's doorsteps.

So guess how he felt when he discovered his grandson had disappeared from the military and was nowhere to be found.

" That stinky brat! Does he dare come see me before I ascend?! " Wang Feng slapped his chair. Just wait until he finds him, he'll show that grandchild of his what it feels like to be on death's doorstep!

Wang Yong outside of his door: "..."
