Chapter 497 - The Fall of the Land of Grass

Chapter 497: The Fall of the Land of Grass

Inside the grand hall, the surrendered Kusagakure ninjas glared at the gathered nobles. The iron rings of their kunai clinked, the sharpened edges catching the flickering torchlight.

"You... you all..." The Daimyo of the Land of Grass shrank back against his gilded throne. He raised a trembling, ring-adorned finger at the shinobi he once considered his loyal hounds. "You traitors!"

Spittle flew from his lips as his voice cracked in panic. "I am your Daimyo! I am your master! How dare you bring outsiders to attack the capital?!"

The temporary leader of the Kusagakure defectors did not flinch. His face remained a mask of pure, unadulterated killing intent. In a world where the strong devoured the weak, loyalty was a luxury bought only with overwhelming power. Right now, Uchiha Akira's will was the absolute law of the heavens. To defy that will was to invite annihilation.

"Do it." Uchiha Enka stood at the vanguard, his voice devoid of any warmth. He did not bother with grand speeches or villainous monologues. He simply issued a death sentence. "Leave none alive."

The Kusagakure ninjas behind him roared in unison. Eager to prove their worth to their new masters, they surged forward, moving even faster than the Uchiha elites.

"Kill!"

"For Hokage-sama!"

"Protect the Daimyo! Quick!" The commander of the royal guards drew his katana, the steel ringing out in the enclosed space. He stepped forward, desperate to mount a defense.

It was a futile gesture. This was not a battle; it was a one-sided slaughter.

Uchiha Enka's hands blurred through a sequence of hand seals. He drew in a massive breath, his chest expanding. "Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!"

A massive sphere of roaring, superheated flame erupted from his lips. Before the charging samurai could even swing their blades, the blinding fire swallowed them whole.

"Aaaaahhh—!"

Agonized shrieks echoed through the hall as armor melted into flesh. The scent of charred meat and burning hair filled the air. This was the absolute, crushing dominance of shinobi over ordinary men wielding swords. And these were not just any shinobi—these were the elites of the Uchiha clan, the undisputed masters of Fire Release.

Beside them, the Kusagakure defectors fought with a desperate, savage ruthlessness, eager to wash away their past allegiances with the blood of their former lords.

"Wind Release: Great Breakthrough!"

"Earth Release: Earth Spear!"

Gale-force winds shredded the ornate tapestries and slammed guards into stone pillars, while jagged spikes of rock erupted from the floor to impale fleeing nobles. Crimson pooled across the polished marble. Severed limbs and ruined bodies littered the grand hall, turning a place of luxury into an abattoir.

Enka's boots clicked against the stone as he stepped over the smoking corpses. He walked at a measured, unhurried pace toward the elevated throne at the back of the hall.

"Stop him! Quick, stop him!" The Daimyo shrieked, his voice pitching into a hysterical squeal. He grabbed golden chalices, decorative plates, anything within reach, and hurled them wildly at the approaching Uchiha.

Three fiercely loyal guards lunged forward, their katanas raised high.

A flash of crimson light illuminated the gloom.

Three heads detached from their shoulders, spinning into the air amid arcs of arterial spray. Enka's blade hummed as he flicked the blood from the steel. In his eye sockets, the three tomoe of his Sharingan spun in a slow, hypnotic rhythm. Through those crimson eyes, the desperate, flailing movements of the guards had played out in agonizing slow motion.

Enka finally stopped at the base of the dais, looking up at the Daimyo. This monarch, a man who had spent his entire life perched on a pedestal of absolute authority, holding the power of life and death over an entire nation, was now reduced to a pathetic, shivering mess. He huddled in the corner of his velvet-cushioned throne like a beaten stray dog.

Every noble who had attended the court was dead. The hall was silent save for the crackling of the spreading fires and the wet, heavy dripping of blood. The metallic stench of slaughter was suffocating.

"Don't... don't kill me..." The Daimyo stared at the blood sliding down the groove of Enka's katana. His final psychological defense shattered.

His knees gave out. He slid off the throne and hit the blood-slicked floor with a heavy thud, crawling forward until he was at the Uchiha's boots. Snot and tears smeared across his wrinkled face.

"I surrender! I am willing to surrender!" he sobbed, his voice raw. "I will give the country to you! I will hand over all political power! Just don't kill me..."

He clawed at the hem of Enka's cloak. "I am willing to step down! I can just be a wealthy commoner! I have money! I have so much money! I can give you the keys to the royal treasury! I have secret deposits in other nations! Please... please, spare my miserable life..."

Enka looked down at the groveling monarch. His crimson eyes held not a single shred of pity. There was only cold, piercing mockery.

"A wealthy commoner?" Enka repeated, the corner of his mouth twitching upward in a cruel sneer. "Lord Daimyo. Have you misunderstood the situation?"

He rested the tip of his katana against the stone floor. "Hokage-sama gave you a chance. A few days ago, when the ultimatum was delivered, if you had bowed your head and abdicated obediently, you might have kept your life. You could have taken your gold, become a wealthy civilian, and enjoyed your twilight years in peace."

Enka slowly raised his katana. The polished steel caught the firelight, reflecting the Daimyo's tear-streaked, terror-distorted face upon the flat of the blade.

"But you chose to resist," Enka continued, his tone dropping to a deadly whisper. "You gathered your pathetic army. You incited the civilians with lies, attempting to stand against Hokage-sama's will."

He adjusted his grip on the hilt. "From the exact moment you made that choice, you were already a dead man."

The Daimyo's pupils dilated to pinpricks. Absolute despair and crushing regret flooded his features. He raised his hands, desperately trying to ward off the inevitable. "No... please don't—"

"Saying these things now," Enka interrupted, his voice ringing out like the final judgment of the Shinigami, "isn't it a bit late?"

A silver arc of light flashed through the air.

The Daimyo's head flew upward, his face frozen in a mask of utter disbelief. The headless corpse remained kneeling for a fraction of a second before it twitched violently and slumped backward against the base of the throne. A fountain of crimson gushed from the severed neck, washing over the gold and velvet that had once symbolized absolute power.

The Daimyo of the Land of Grass was dead.

Enka snapped his wrist, shaking the blood from his blade with a sharp hiss before sliding it smoothly back into its scabbard.

"Take the head," he ordered, turning to face the waiting Kusagakure ninjas. "Hang it from the highest point of the city gate."

His gaze swept over the blood-soaked hall. "Then, announce to the entire country: The Land of Grass has fallen. From this day forward, these lands are officially incorporated into the territory of the Land of Fire. Let the Daimyo's corpse serve as a warning. For those who choose to resist, this will be their end."

Several Kusagakure ninjas immediately rushed forward. They scooped up the Daimyo's severed head by its thinning hair, treating the former ruler of their nation like discarded trash, and hurried out to execute their orders.

Half an hour later, the sounds of combat across the capital ceased entirely. The battle was officially declared over. Any wandering shinobi or loyalist samurai who had dared to draw their weapons against the invasion forces had been systematically and ruthlessly crushed.

As for the civilians who had been incited to take up arms, they now knelt in the blood-stained streets, pressing their foreheads to the dirt in trembling submission. Just hours ago, they had believed they were marching into a holy war to defend their homeland. The Daimyo's propaganda had convinced them that Konoha was a village of demons coming to pillage their farms and steal their families.

But as they looked up at the Uchiha shinobi walking through the streets—men who moved with the terrifying grace of slaughter gods, their crimson eyes glowing in the smoke—the civilians finally understood the bitter truth.

What country? What Daimyo? In the face of absolute, overwhelming power, their patriotic ideals were laughably fragile.

Enka stepped out of the palace gates, his face an emotionless mask as he surveyed the purgatory-like scene of the burning capital. He reached into his flak jacket and withdrew a sealed scroll. It bore the personal signature of Uchiha Akira.

He unrolled it, his voice carrying over the crackling flames to his subordinates. "Pass down the Hokage's orders."

"First: Take over all military defenses and border checkpoints of the Land of Grass immediately."

"Second: Seize the royal treasury. All assets, gold, and property belonging to the ruling class are hereby confiscated."

"Third: Screen every surviving noble. Any individual found to have participated in or funded the resistance is to be executed without mercy."

"Fourth: As for the incited civilian populace, their death penalty is waived. However, because they took up arms in cooperation with the Daimyo, they are sentenced to mandatory labor reform for a period of three years."

As the decrees echoed through the streets, the very sky over the ancient city seemed to shift. A new era had violently arrived.

And this brutal transition was not isolated to the Land of Grass.

At that exact moment, identical scenes of conquest and subjugation were playing out across the continent. The Land of Waterfall, the Land of Frost, the Land of Birds, and half a dozen other minor nations were falling in rapid succession. Uchiha Akira's will swept across the map like an unstoppable, raging torrent, violently washing away the decaying, bloated political systems of the old era.

The unspoken rules of the ninja world—the delicate balance between shinobi villages and their civilian lords that had persisted for a thousand years—were being ground into dust beneath Uchiha Akira's iron fist.

A few days later.

Konoha, the Hokage's Office.

Uchiha Akira sat comfortably behind his expansive mahogany desk, casually flipping through the stack of battle reports delivered from the front lines. An Anbu operative knelt respectfully on the floor before him, delivering the final debrief.

"Hokage-sama," the masked shinobi reported, his tone crisp and professional. "The purge operations across the Land of Grass, the Land of Waterfall, the Land of Frost, and six other minor nations have been successfully concluded."

"All Daimyos and royal family members who mounted any form of armed resistance have been executed."

"Those who surrendered peacefully have been entirely stripped of their political rights and wealth. They are currently being transported to the designated civilian resettlement zones on the outskirts of Konoha, exactly as you instructed."

"Very good." Akira set the reports down, a faint, satisfied smile touching the corners of his lips. He leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers. "And what of the shinobi forces from those minor hidden villages?"

"Their ranks have been completely dismantled and broken up," the Anbu replied instantly. "In accordance with your requirements, the 'Mixed Compilation System' has been fully applied."

The operative bowed his head slightly. "The foreign shinobi have been scattered and integrated into four-man cells alongside our own forces. In every squad, a Konoha Jonin has been assigned as the commanding captain. While there may be some minor friction during the initial integration period, under the absolute strength suppression of our elites, they will not dare to cause any trouble."
