Chapter 8 - Chapter 8:Lightning

Souma and Elena are back in town.

I've just finished defeating 20 Leafmen and reported them to the guild.

(Don't get too strong. It's very different from Earth)

Souma smiled as she saw her status.

-------------

[Job ] Swordsman

[Level ]8

[Overall strength ]1682

-------------

The overall strength is growing in a way that is unthinkable on Earth.

(The value multiplied by the level and overall strength is approximately 13,500. If it's someone other than an adventurer, it looks like he could be stabbed with a kitchen knife and still survive.)

The increase in overall strength was well understood from the experience.

It feels like an aura is gushing from all over your body.

"Soma, you look so happy!"

Elena, who walks next to him, talks to him.

Her level had also risen to 8.

"Well, that's because I'm at level 8."

"It's true that a lot has gone up, but are you that happy? I would say that if you were at a normal level, you'd be around 40."

" Otherworldly Mistoria So I guess that's the case."

"In Mistria...?"

 Elena couldn't understand.

"Moreover, what do you do now? You made money from quest rewards, so why not go to a bar and have a blast?!"

"Not a bad idea. But before that, can I stop over there?"

Souma pointed to the store that had just come into view.

The sign reads "Magician" along with an illustration of a wand.

"Oh! Souma, do you learn magic!"

"No, I'm a swordsman so I can't remember. However, if there was a grimoire like the one in Japan, I just wanted to browse it."

"Huh?"

Elena said, "What are you talking about?" He tilts his head as if to say so.

"Sorry, Japan is ――"

"That bothers me too, but what do you mean you can't learn magic because you're a swordsman?"

"Huh?"

This time Souma tilted her head.

"Can a swordsman learn magic using a grimoire?"

"Seriously?!"

"It's obvious."

 Souma was surprised.

(On Earth, there is a set magic that can be learned for each job. As a swordsman, it's common sense that I can't even use simple magic.)

"That's right! I'm impatient too, so maybe I'll learn some new magic! Once you learn attack magic, it's okay to be attacked by Vinellas, right?"

Elena looks at Souma with a grin.

(Can you use magic...! This me...!)

 But Souma hadn't heard Elena.

The fact that he could learn magic was what was so shocking.

"Moo! Come on in!"

While saying this, Elena pulled Souma's hand and entered the wizard's shop.

 ◇

The interior of the wizard's shop was a far cry from Souma's image.

I was clearly thinking of something like a small bookstore in a shopping district.

I thought I had grimoires on my bookshelf.

However, there wasn't even a single grimoire in the actual store.

There is a wooden table where an elderly couple makes small talk.

Right next to it was the reception counter, and the old woman who owned it looked bored.

"Hello! I'm off to buy a grimoire!"

 Elena greets him cheerfully.

"Yes, choose what you like."

The old woman shows Souma and the others with the index finger of her right hand.

Then a shop window appeared in their field of vision.

 The window lists the products.

"Soma, which one would you like?"

Elena scrolled her fingers around the edge of the window.

"You can usually buy a cheap grimoire."

Souma was impressed with the price of the product.

(A grimoire that would cost millions of yen in Japan would cost 10,000 gold here. 10,000 gold is a few days' worth of living expenses. Too cheap)

However, Souma currently only has 20,000 gold.

Considering the cost of food and lodging, I could only buy one book.

"I'll be 〈Lightning〉."

"Oh! Is it thunder! Souma looks good in water attributes though!"

"What do you mean, water attributes look good on you."

 Elena flushed, "Hahaha."

"By the way, why 〈Lightning〉? There are a lot of monsters around the Grandel that are weak to fire, so 〈Fireball〉 seems like a better option!"

"I thought 〈Lightning〉 would be better for overall usability.〈 Unlike Fireball〉, you can't involve nearby enemies, but it's fast, so it's easy to catch them, right?"

"Hey, you have some pretty good taste."

The shopkeeper's old woman joins in the story.

"So, can you spare me that flair and make it a little cheaper?"

 Souma casually haggled.

He grew up in a poor family and is good at negotiating price cuts.

But this time the opponent was bad.

"If you don't mind, I'll make it free."

"Really?!"

 Excited Souma.

Meanwhile, the old woman laughed Nikoli.

"But I'll have my body pay for it instead. Even though I look like this, I have a strong sexual desire. You've been starving for a man ever since you passed away."

"....."

 Souma silently paid 10,000 gold.

 ◇

"The Grimoire looks exactly the same as in Japan."

Souma walks down the street holding a freshly purchased grimoire in her hands.

His face looks as happy as a child receiving a birthday present.

"Soma, why don't you use it right away? If you're not going to use it, there's no point in buying it."

"Elena doesn't know she can stay in this world forever. But it's time to give it a try."

 That's what Souma thinks.

(Using it is a strange way to express yourself.)

In Japan, learning magic requires perusing grimoires.

After frantically reading through thick books like law books, I finally learned the magic.

It was completely different in Mistria.

"You just need to think about it, right?"

"Yes! Just remind yourself as I did earlier!"

"Okay."

Souma held the grimoire in her right hand and closed her eyes to remember.

The grimoire then transformed into a line of light and entered Souma's body.

『〈I learned Lightning〉』

 The log is updated.

"Wow, I really learned magic...!"

Not only can you learn it, but you can also activate it.

Souma decided to give it a try.

Raise your right hand to heaven.

"That! 〈Lightning〉!"

A ray of lightning shot from the palm of my hand.

"Kyaa"

"Woo"

 Passersby nearby are surprised.

"Hey! Souma-san! Don't use magic in the city!"

 Elena panics and warns.

"Really?"

"That's obvious! It's dangerous!"

"I thought if I just let it go into the sky it would be fine."

"Not at all!"

"I'll be careful."

Elena said, "Please do!" He puffed out his cheeks.

"But I guess the day will come when I can use magic..."

Souma looks at the palm of her right hand.

(I wonder if the magic you learn, not just your status, will be reflected on Earth? If so, I'll be the only magical swordsman on Earth!)

I couldn't look forward to when I returned to Japan
