It was a bit of a pity that the starter deck granted by the system didn't contain Dark Magician Girl. In fact, it didn't even have a single female monster...
Furthermore, the first ability he unlocked from his starter pack wasn't the vision to see Duel Spirits either.
Regardless, he believed that the combination of this deck and his current ability would bring Professor Crowler a "tilt-inducing smile"... wait, a "healing smile."
As Jiang He stood up to prepare, the scene developed exactly as he remembered.
Professor Crowler seemed to hold the absolute advantage with his 3000 ATK Ancient Gear Golem towering over Jaden's 2100 ATK Elemental HERO Flame Wingman. However, Jaden played the Field Spell, Skyscraper, boosting Flame Wingman by 1000 attack points and instantly flipping the board!
Relying on Flame Wingman's special effect, Jaden dealt a finishing blow that wiped out Crowler's remaining 3000 Life Points in a single strike.
"He actually won?!" Syrus and the others stared at the scene in shock.
They then looked with even greater disbelief at Jiang He, who was already walking toward the arena floor. While they were stunned by Jaden defeating the formidable Professor Crowler, they were even more baffled by Jiang He's foresight. He had predicted the win even when Jaden was in an overwhelmingly disadvantageous position.
"That guy...! How could he see that coming? Candidate 111..." Bastion Misawa muttered, his eyes wide.
"Next for the dueling test: Candidate Number 111, Jiang He," a gentle female voice announced over the speakers. Even her voice carried a hint of lingering shock from Crowler's defeat.
"I won! Jiang He, it's your turn!" Jaden shouted with a grin as he passed him on the arena floor.
The two had only known each other for less than half an hour, but as fellow latecomers, they had already built a bit of rapport.
Jiang He nodded and took the opportunity to borrow Jaden's Duel Disk. The stingy system had given him an important starter deck and a skill, but had somehow neglected to provide the actual dueling hardware.
"So this is a Duel Disk..." After Jiang He strapped it to his left wrist and fiddled with the settings, he looked across the field.
Opposite him, Professor Crowler was still clutching his golden hair with both hands, drowning in the shame of his loss. He looked like he was on the verge of tears. Why had he, the head of practical exams, lost to a "slacker" he was specifically trying to keep out of the academy?
"Excuse me, Professor Mushroom Head? Can we start the test?" Jiang He's voice rang out, sounding somewhat helpless.
"Gold-haired... Mushroom Head Professor?!" Crowler practically exploded. He bolted upright, glaring at Jiang He with gritted teeth.
In the stands, the other examinees, upperclassmen, and even the faculty were stunned for a second. Then, muffled snickers began to break out across the stadium.
The description of Crowler was simply too accurate, though most people were usually too afraid to say it out loud.
"Insolent slacker! You're just like that Jaden Yuki boy, another latecomer!" Crowler thought venomously.
He straightened his expensive Duel Disk and pulled two new cards from his pocket, quickly swapping them into his deck.
"I cannot fail a second time!"
"I'll deal with that other boy later, but this one this even more detestable one must be stopped at the gate!"
"Don't blame me for using this. I didn't want to bully a student with the ace of my Dark Middle Ages deck, but you've left me no choice!" Crowler snarled internally.
