Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Friction of Growth

However, the clarity he had begun to build did not translate into uninterrupted progress, because as his understanding increased, so did the expectations he placed upon himself, and this subtle shift created a form of resistance that was not physical, but internal, manifesting in moments where his movements, though technically improved, lacked the natural flow they had previously held.

During practice, he found himself overcorrecting, thinking too much about each step, each angle, each position, until the movement itself became constrained, losing the fluidity that had begun to emerge through repetition.

The bat felt heavier.

Not in weight, but in intention.

Each shot carried the burden of expectation, and as a result, his timing slipped in small but noticeable ways, turning what should have been clean connections into slightly mistimed efforts.

This frustration, however, did not overwhelm him, because unlike his previous life, where setbacks often led to exhaustion, he now approached it with curiosity, recognizing that this phase was not a failure, but a necessary part of progression.

He slowed down.

Returned to simpler movements.

Reduced the complexity he had introduced.

And in doing so, he began to restore the balance between awareness and instinct, understanding that both were necessary, and that leaning too heavily on one would disrupt the other.
