Chapter 37 - Chapter 36:When the Office Finds out

The following morning, Rivera Group headquarters was alive with energy.

Employees arrived in clusters, chatting about projects, deadlines, and weekend plans. Yet, beneath the normal office bustle, there was an undercurrent of curiosity—an almost electric anticipation.

Sofia Mirano walked through the lobby, holding her bag lightly in one hand and a stack of files in the other. Her pulse raced, not because of work, but because of what had happened the night before.

The first kiss.

It replayed in her mind, each detail sharper than she could have imagined.

Sofia's heels clicked against the polished floor as she approached her desk. Several coworkers glanced up, their expressions a mixture of curiosity and surprise.

And she already knew why.

Word traveled fast, even faster than she expected, thanks to a certain someone: Lucy Hemming.

Her phone buzzed in her pocket. She glanced down: a message from Lucy.

"Did it happen?? I need all the details! Lunch. Now. Coffee. ASAP."

Sofia shook her head, smiling despite herself. She typed a quick reply:

"All in due time. Don't start a riot yet."

Sofia set the phone down and sat at her desk. Her heart rate was still high, and she couldn't help sneaking glances toward Leo Rivera's office. The glass walls made it easy.

Leo stood by the window, reviewing documents—or at least pretending to. He was quiet, composed, but Sofia could sense the difference in him. Something in his posture had softened. Something had shifted.

It was only a matter of time before the office caught on.

And sure enough, the rumors began almost immediately.

A whisper here. A sly glance there. The faint giggle of assistants passing by. Sofia's cheeks warmed, but she kept her composure.

By mid-morning, the gossip had reached a tipping point.

"Did you see them yesterday after hours?" one employee asked another near the coffee machine.

"They're definitely… together," replied the other, eyes wide.

Sofia glanced up, catching snippets of conversations as she walked past coworkers. It was both exciting and nerve-wracking.

When she returned to her desk, Leo emerged from his office. The click of his shoes against the polished floor drew several eyes immediately.

"Morning," he said quietly, but there was a subtle warmth in his tone reserved only for her.

Sofia looked up and smiled faintly.

"Morning."

Their eyes met, and for a brief moment, the world around them—the whispers, the stares, the gossip—vanished.

Leo leaned against the edge of her desk, close enough that she could feel the faint warmth radiating from him.

"Brace yourself," he said quietly.

"For what?"

"The office chatter."

Sofia exhaled softly, already bracing herself.

Just then, Lucy appeared, practically bounding across the office floor. Her designer handbag swung with each step, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

"Sofia!" Lucy whispered dramatically, leaning over her desk. "Tell me everything! Did it happen?! Spill it!"

Sofia chuckled quietly.

"You know I can't just spill corporate secrets."

Lucy rolled her eyes.

"This isn't a secret anymore. Everyone's whispering. Everyone saw you two yesterday. Don't lie!"

Sofia shook her head, laughing.

"It wasn't anyone's business but ours."

Lucy leaned closer, whispering as though she was passing state secrets.

"Well, now it is! And you two better behave… or the gossip will hit a new level."

Sofia glanced toward Leo. He was watching them quietly, an amused smile playing on his lips.

"Looks like the cat's out of the bag," she murmured.

Leo walked past her, placing a hand lightly on her shoulder.

"Let them talk," he said softly. "It changes nothing between us."

Sofia smiled, feeling a warmth that had nothing to do with the morning sunlight streaming through the windows.

The rest of the day passed with curious stares and quiet murmurs, but neither Sofia nor Leo let it interfere with work. In fact, there was an unspoken energy between them—a quiet understanding that this was theirs, and theirs alone.

By the afternoon, the office atmosphere had shifted. Whispers still floated, but now there was a sense of excitement rather than judgment. Employees couldn't help but smile whenever they saw the two of them sharing a glance or a subtle, fleeting touch.

Later, when the building began to empty, Sofia stayed behind, tidying her desk. Leo emerged from his office once more, stopping beside her.

"You handled today well," he said quietly.

Sofia shrugged, a soft smile on her lips.

"I just… ignored the whispers."

Leo nodded, his eyes locking with hers.

"Good. Because now that it's out in the open, there's no turning back."

Sofia's heart raced.

"Are you sure?" she asked softly.

Leo's hand brushed against hers briefly, sending a small shock through her.

"I've never been more sure of anything in my life."

And for the first time, as the office lights dimmed around them, Sofia realized that nothing could stand between them—not gossip, not rules, not even the entire company.

Because for the first time, she and Leo Rivera had crossed the line from tension to truth.

And there was no going back.

Outside the office, the city continued to hum with its normal rhythm. Inside, two people had discovered something far more powerful than schedules, files, or corporate hierarchy.

They had discovered each other.

And the slow-burning romance that had begun quietly in whispers and stolen glances had finally ignited into something undeniable.

The office had found out. And Sofia couldn't stop smiling.

Because she knew that for the first time in her life, her heart had found its place—right next to Leo Rivera's.
