Chapter 3 - Chapter 2: Enemy in My House

Aanya followed Rey through the labyrinth of dark alleys and narrow streets, her mind spinning. Every step felt surreal—her father dead, her family's empire in chaos, and now she was at the mercy of the man whose presence alone made her pulse race.

They arrived at an old, fortified mansion at the edge of the city. Rey's home. His lair. The place he commanded with an iron fist, just like the rumors said.

"You're staying here," he said bluntly, opening the massive door. "It's safer than the streets. For now."

"Safer?!" Aanya's voice cracked. "You expect me to trust you? After tonight—after everything?"

He didn't answer. He just stepped aside, his dark eyes scanning her like he was calculating every possible threat, every weakness.

Aanya clenched her fists, trying to mask the nervous tremor in her legs. The air between them was electric—sharp, dangerous, intoxicating. He was her enemy. She hated him. And yet… something in his presence stirred a feeling she refused to name.

Inside, the mansion was a maze of shadows and hidden corridors. Security cameras, locked doors, weapons carefully arranged—a fortress built for a king of the underworld. A king who, for some reason, had claimed her protection as his responsibility.

"Why me?" she finally asked, breaking the silence. "Why not let me fend for myself?"

He stepped closer, close enough for her to feel the heat radiating from him. "Because no one else can survive what's coming," he said quietly. "And because… you belong nowhere else."

A shiver ran down her spine. Belong? She wasn't even sure she wanted to admit the spark his words ignited—a dangerous, maddening spark she had no right to feel.

Before she could respond, a distant explosion shook the mansion. Windows rattled. The city was alive with chaos, and outside, the enemy moved.

Rey's jaw tightened. "You think this is over? It's only begun."

Aanya's stomach dropped. She realized with sinking certainty that staying here, with him, meant stepping fully into a world she had never known—a world of danger, obsession, and dark desire.

And she had no choice but to follow.

Cliffhanger:

Outside, the assassin from the alley was still alive. Someone in the city was watching them. The first move of the next deadly attack is coming…
