Chapter 1 - The Cold Moon of Rejection

Chapter 1: The Cold Moon of Rejection

The grand hall of the Silver Moon Pack was filled with the scent of expensive wine and the heavy, metallic tang of shifting wolves. Tonight was the Night of the Blood Moon—the night every young wolf prayed to find their fated mate.

Elara stood in the corner, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. She could feel the pull, a magnetic tug in her soul leading her toward the center of the room. Toward him.

Kaelen. The future Alpha. Her childhood friend. The man she had secretly loved for years.

As Kaelen stepped onto the podium, his golden eyes scanned the crowd. When his gaze met Elara's, her breath hitched. The bond snapped into place—electric, overwhelming, and undeniable.

Mate, her wolf whispered in her mind, trembling with joy. We found him.

But Kaelen's expression didn't soften. Instead, his lip curled in a cold, disgusted sneer. He didn't walk toward her. Instead, he reached out his hand to Seraphina, Elara's cruel stepsister, and pulled her to his side.

The room went deathly silent.

"Members of the Silver Moon Pack," Kaelen's voice boomed, vibrating with Alpha authority. "The Moon Goddess has played a cruel joke. She has tied my soul to a weak, pathetic Omega who cannot even shift at the age of eighteen."

He looked directly at Elara, his eyes freezing her blood.

"I, Alpha Kaelen of the Silver Moon Pack, reject you, Elara, as my mate and future Luna. You are a disgrace to my bloodline. I choose Seraphina as my true partner."

The rejection hit Elara like a physical blow to the chest. She gasped, clutching her heart as the bond began to tear, searing her insides with white-hot agony. Tears blurred her vision, but she refused to let them fall in front of the people who were now whispering and laughing.

"Kaelen... please," she whispered, her voice trembling.

"Leave," Kaelen growled, his Alpha aura crushing her to her knees. "You are no longer welcome here. By sunrise, if you are still on my lands, I will hunt you down myself."

As Elara crawled out of the hall, the sound of her stepsister's triumphant laughter ringing in her ears, she made a silent vow.

They thought I was weak. They thought I was nothing.

She looked up at the blood-red moon, her eyes glowing with a strange, silver light that no Omega should possess.

One day, Kaelen... you will crawl to me. And on that day, I will be the one to turn my back.
