Chapter 1 - The Girl Who Looked Like Her

Chapter 1 – A New Beginning

Lina Carter stood in front of Moonridge High School, looking up at the tall building with nervous eyes. The sky was gray, and the wind was cold, moving the trees slowly as if the town itself was whispering secrets she could not hear. She held her bag tightly and took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart.

This was her first day in a new town, a new school, and a completely new life. She told herself that coming to Moonridge was a good idea, that this place would help her forget the past. But deep inside, Lina knew that some memories never disappeared. They stayed with you, following you like a shadow wherever you went.

Students were standing near the entrance, talking and laughing together. Some of them looked at Lina with curiosity. In a small town like Moonridge, everyone noticed a new face.

"Okay… you can do this," Lina whispered to herself before walking inside.

The hallway was loud and crowded. Lockers were opening and closing, footsteps echoed on the floor, and voices filled the air. Lina felt a little lost, but she tried not to show it. She walked slowly, looking for her classroom while reading the numbers on the doors.

When she finally found the classroom, she stopped for a moment before entering. She fixed her hair quickly and walked in.

The teacher looked at her and smiled.

"You must be Lina Carter," she said. "Class, this is Lina. She just moved here, so please help her if she needs anything."

Some students smiled at her, others just looked at her silently. Lina walked to an empty seat near the window and sat down, trying to ignore the feeling that everyone was looking at her.

She opened her notebook and tried to focus on the lesson, but after a few minutes, she felt something strange.

It felt like someone was watching her.

Slowly, Lina turned her head a little and looked behind her.

That's when she saw him.

A boy was sitting in the back of the classroom, looking directly at her. He had dark hair, pale skin, and deep eyes that were fixed on her like he was trying to understand something very important. He didn't smile. He didn't look away. He just kept looking at her.

Lina quickly looked back at her notebook, her heart beating a little faster.

"Why is he looking at me like that?" she thought.

A few minutes later, she looked again, and he was still looking at her.

This time, their eyes met.

For a moment, Lina felt like the whole world became silent. She didn't know why, but there was something about his eyes that made her feel strange, like she had seen him before in a dream she couldn't remember.

Then he looked away, and the moment ended.

When the class finished, Lina quickly started putting her books in her bag, but before she could leave, she heard a voice behind her.

"Hey."

She turned around and saw the same boy standing there.

"Hi," he said. "You're new here."

"Yes," Lina replied. "I just moved here."

"I'm Adrian," he said, looking at her carefully.

"I'm Lina," she said.

"I know," Adrian replied quietly.

Lina looked surprised. "How do you know my name?"

Adrian smiled a little. "In a town like this, news travels fast. Everyone knows there's a new girl in town."

"That's a little scary," Lina said with a small laugh.

"Moonridge can be a scary place," Adrian said.

Lina smiled, thinking he was joking, but Adrian didn't laugh. He was looking at her in a serious way, like he was trying to warn her about something.

They walked together into the hallway.

"So, where are you from?" Adrian asked.

"From the city," Lina said. "My mother and I moved here a few weeks ago."

"Do you like it here?" he asked.

"I don't know yet," Lina answered. "It's very quiet… maybe too quiet."

Adrian looked at her and said softly, "Quiet towns usually have the darkest secrets."

Lina looked at him and laughed nervously. "You talk like a character from a scary movie."

Adrian smiled a little. "Maybe I am."

They stopped walking near the school entrance.

"It was nice meeting you, Lina," Adrian said.

"Nice meeting you too," she replied.

As Adrian walked away, Lina watched him for a moment.

"There is definitely something strange about him," she thought.

That evening, Lina was at home, sitting on her bed with a notebook in her hands. Writing always helped her think. When she was confused or sad, she wrote. And tonight, she had many things on her mind.

She opened the notebook and started writing.

Today was my first day at Moonridge High School. I was very nervous, but everything was okay. The school is normal, the students are normal… but something feels strange about this town.

And then there is Adrian.

I don't know why, but when he looks at me, I feel like he knows me. Not the Lina that everyone sees, but the Lina inside my head, the Lina with secrets and fears.

He told me that this town is scary and full of secrets. I think he was trying to warn me about something, but I don't know what.

Maybe I'm just imagining things. Maybe I'm just nervous because everything is new.

But I have a strange feeling that meeting Adrian was not an accident.

I feel like this is the beginning of something… something that will change my life forever.

Lina

She closed the notebook, turned off the light, and lay down in bed. A few minutes later, she fell asleep.

Outside, the night was dark and silent. The wind moved the trees slowly, and clouds covered the moon.

A shadow appeared on the roof of the house.

A man was standing there, looking at Lina's window. His eyes were cold, and his expression was serious, but there was a small smile on his lips.

"So, she's here," he said quietly. "She really does look like her."

In a second, he jumped from the roof and landed silently on the ground. He walked slowly toward the window and looked inside.

Lina was sleeping peacefully, not knowing that someone was watching her.

The man touched the window glass lightly.

"This is going to be interesting," he whispered.

Then he disappeared into the darkness.
