Chapter 2 - The Alpha’s Game Begins

The reception hall had emptied for a moment, leaving Helena alone in a corner, the glittering lights reflecting off the crystal chandeliers like shards of memory she could barely face. Her wedding gown felt heavier now, not just from the fabric, but from the weight of the man she had betrayed standing a few feet away. Marcus Valen—the Alpha CEO whose name alone carried fear and reverence—was smiling politely at the guests, but Helena knew that smile was a lie. She had seen the real him. That calculating, unreadable gaze that had haunted her nightmares for years.

She took a shaky breath, reminding herself she was not helpless. She had survived betrayal, ruin, and scandal before, and she would survive him too. She was Helena, the woman who could never be truly broken—though tonight, she admitted silently, she felt closer to it than she ever had.

Her thoughts were interrupted when Marcus approached, each step measured and confident. She stiffened instinctively. He stopped just short of her, the faint scent of his cologne mixing with the perfume she wore, stirring a warmth she could not deny.

"Enjoying the party?" he asked, his tone casual but laced with something sharper beneath the surface—a promise, a warning.

"I…" She faltered, but managed, "I'm managing." Her voice sounded too small, too fragile even to her own ears.

He tilted his head, studying her. "Good," he said finally, slow and deliberate. "Because the game has only just begun."

Helena's stomach turned. "What do you mean?"

Marcus leaned just slightly closer, enough that she could feel the heat of his body without touching, and whispered, "Every move you make tonight, every smile, every step… I'll be watching. And I never forget a betrayal."

The words sent a shiver through her, and not the kind that came from fear alone. His closeness was electric, magnetic, and impossible to resist. Helena forced herself to step back—but he mirrored her movement perfectly, as if the space between them had been measured in tension alone.

She hated that her pulse betrayed her. She hated that her body remembered what her mind wanted to forget. And she hated that he seemed to enjoy it, that glint of amusement in his dark eyes.

"Marcus…" she started, but he cut her off.

"Call me Marcus. Or don't. It won't matter either way," he said, voice low and commanding. "Tonight, you're mine. Tomorrow, you'll start learning what that really means."

Helena's mind raced. Was this all about revenge? Or something darker—something more personal? He had power, influence, and every tool he could use to make her life a nightmare, yet the way he looked at her suggested he wasn't done testing her. Not yet.

She straightened her spine, regaining some control. "I will not be your pawn," she said, her voice steadier than she felt. "I am not here to play your games."

He smirked, a dangerous, predatory curl of lips. "Oh, Helena… you already are. And trust me, the game is far from over. You'll see that soon enough."

As he walked away, leaving her standing in the glittering hall, Helena realized she had already lost. And yet… a small, maddening part of her couldn't help but want to see what his next move would be.

The wedding night had ended, but for Helena and Marcus, this was only the beginning. Every glance, every word, every breath between them would be a battlefield. Revenge. Desire. Power. And in the shadows of this luxury, under the watchful eyes of a world that didn't know their past, a dangerous game had begun—one that neither of them could walk away from.

Helena swallowed hard, feeling both fear and thrill coiled in her chest. She had survived everything before. But surviving Marcus Valen… this was a challenge she wasn't sure she could meet.

And yet, somehow… she wanted to try.
