Contract Marriage!!

I am Trishna. I have just completed my honors degree, and meanwhile, my father has become determined to get me married.

So almost every week, families come to see me. But I always find some excuse and say I don't like the guy. And my father, with a disappointed face, sends them back.

Today again, I am all dressed up, sitting in front of a new groom's family. The groom is an engineer, so it doesn seem like it will be easy to reject this one. My father is extremely happy—if he could, he would marry me off right now.

Anyway, the groom's mother is observing me in every possible way, as if I'm a delicate glass doll she plans to take home and place in a corner.

I'm just waiting for the moment when they'll let me and the groom talk alone.

Maybe my future father-in-law understood my thoughts, because we were finally sent to talk privately.

I brought him to my room. He has been looking down since then. I was also looking down, so I didn't even get to see his face.

Finally, when I lifted my head to say that I am not ready for marriage—I froze.

Is he even human, or a prince from a fairy tale?

How can someone be so handsome? I stared at him shamelessly, completely forgetting my shyness. But he didn't even look at me once.

When I came back to my senses, I asked, "Do you like me?"

He briefly replied, "Yes."

Strange man! He didn't even look at me once, yet he says he likes me. Is he shy, or something else?

What am I even thinking! I'm getting a husband like a prince. Just thinking about it makes me happy.

I took him back and told everyone that we both liked each other.

Everyone loudly said, "Alhamdulillah!" My father was overjoyed. He immediately started making arrangements for the wedding.

I went inside, blushing. But I couldn't stop wondering—why didn't he look at me even once? Am I that unattractive?

I looked at myself in the mirror and asked the same question.

No, in college, many boys had crushes on me. But I never accepted anyone, thinking I would fall in love with my future husband.

Just then, my younger brother came and said, "Sister! Your wedding is next Friday!"

I hid my face in a pillow, blushing. I couldn't believe it—my marriage, a new life, a family of my own!

Soon, the day arrived. Today is my wedding day. Happiness on one side, and the pain of leaving loved ones on the other.

After many rituals, the wedding was completed. Now I'm leaving for my in-laws' house in a decorated car. The man sitting beside me—my husband—is not saying a word. Maybe he's just quiet by nature.

Anyway, from now on, he is mine. Only mine. I will love him in my own way.

Now I'm sitting on a beautifully decorated bed full of flowers. It's my wedding night. I'm waiting for my husband.

The door slowly opened, and he entered. I got down and greeted him respectfully. I thought he would lift me and hold me close—but he didn't.

I sat back on the bed. He sat a little distance away and said,

"Listen, I need to tell you something. Pay attention."

"I love someone else. And she loves me too. But for some reason, my father didn't like her. Instead, he started looking for a bride for me. When my parents saw your picture, they liked you very much. They told me that when I meet you, I must say yes immediately. If I didn't, I would have to see my father dead."

"So I had no choice but to marry you."

For a moment, I became completely numb.

No… this can't be happening.

The man I dreamed about cannot love someone else. Why didn't I die before hearing this?

Every part of my body felt unbearable pain. Now I understood why he didn't look at me that day.

Oh Allah, why did this happen to me? Why can't I have a normal married life like other girls?

Whatever happens, I hope he gets the one he loves.

So I said, "Fine… what do you want? You want a divorce, right?"

He stood up, took out a paper from the drawer, and handed it to me.

It said that after one year of marriage, I would leave him willingly.

He handed me a pen and said,

"Sign this. After one year, my parents will go for Hajj. At that time, you'll leave as per this agreement. Then I will marry the one I love. When my parents return, I'll apologize, and they'll accept us."

"So for one year, you have to act as my wife. But don't ever come to me asking for a wife's rights."

"I'll sleep on the sofa. You sleep on the bed."

After saying this, he left.

I sat there, stunned.

What a beautiful wedding night fate has given me.

I signed the contract paper given by my husband and went to freshen up.

After returning, I lay down. Tears rolled down my eyes without me even realizing.

And from today began my life of a contract marriage.
