Chapter 1 - 1. Chapter 1: To Die, To Live

Darkness shrouds the mountain forest at night, and blazing flames devour the manor standing among the mountains. The wails of vengeful ghosts echo through the silent valley.

A teenage boy, around fourteen or fifteen years old, stares at the raging fire with an expressionless face, holding the torch that ignited the blaze.

Drenched in gasoline, the mountain manor cannot resist the flames at all. Everything that once existed is burned away bit by bit, leaving only the crackling sound of splitting wood.

Burn it all. Burn everything.

This sinful prison will disappear forever.

Tilting his head slightly with the torch in his hand, he admires the masterpiece he has single-handedly created.

The cage that has imprisoned him for more than ten years has finally turned into a sea of fire by his own hands.

Buried along with it is that demon.

"Where are we going?" A childish voice comes from the cat perched on his shoulder. The palm-sized kitten has a pair of clear and bright eyes. It licks its paw and gazes at the boy's cold side face.

"Anywhere, as long as we leave here." The boy casts one last glance at his creation, then turns and walks toward the outside of the mountain forest.

A crisp jingle sounds with every step he takes. Broken chains cling to his ankles, and his scarred feet tread on the rugged forest path without the slightest sensation.

Just as the boy turns to leave, a man wrapped entirely in flames bursts out of the fire. His eyes, glowing through the fire, fixate on the fading back of the boy. A hoarse, tearing voice pierces the sky.

"Wu Xie! Come back to me! You can never leave here!! You belong to me!"

Decades of painstaking efforts turned to ashes overnight. The perfect masterpiece he had carefully nurtured had become the culprit of this nightmare.

The boy stops and turns to look at the man being devoured by the flames. There is not a single ripple in his calm black eyes. He says calmly, "You are dying. I am alive."

The man wails in the fire. The boy glances at his worst nightmare one final time and says coldly, "Farewell, Grandpa." The cat on his shoulder lets out a disdainful sneer. Grandpa?

A madman who lost himself for the sake of medicine, a lunatic who kept his own grandson captive in the remote mountains as a test subject—does he even deserve to be called the master's grandfather?

"Master, what are you going to do next?" Ignoring the fading cries being swallowed by the fire, the cat shakes its fluffy body and asks the boy.

The boy looks down at his thin, frail hands. "Get a veterinary license."

"Hahaha! If that old fool knew the genius physician he spent his life training is going to become a vet, he'd roll in his grave!" The strange cat shakes with laughter on the boy's shoulder.

"Roll in his grave?" The boy lowers his eyes, and a nearly imperceptible smile tugs at the corner of his mouth.

A year later, the boy settles in City A, obtains his veterinary license, and embarks on the path of a ruthless, unscrupulous veterinarian.

Life and death alternate. One moment he is in the organization's operating room; the next, after an explosion, he arrives in an unfamiliar world.

Heavy rain pours down relentlessly. Lying on the jagged rocks, Lang Wuxie calmly assesses his situation.

He has arrived in a brand-new world, taken over the body of a dying soul, and gained a new identity. Ridiculously enough, the original owner of this body is also named Wuxie—only with a surname: Lang.
