Cherreads

Chapter 4 - Light vs CorruptionSirens screamed across Vayunagar like a city in mourning.

Smoke climbed into the night sky in thick black pillars, illuminated by the flickering orange glow of burning wreckage. Emergency lights painted the streets in red and blue, flashing against shattered glass and overturned vehicles.

Where a military convoy had once stood…

There was now a crater.

Metal twisted like paper.

Concrete pulverized into dust.

Heat waves rising from scorched earth.

And at the center of it all stood one man.

Raghav Verma.

Or what remained of him.

The incomplete suit pulsed with violent energy, black veins crawling across its surface like living cracks in reality. The four active nodes burned fiercely — red, orange, yellow, and a corrupted green that flickered between emerald and sickly black.

He looked less like a human… and more like a weapon given consciousness.

Soldiers lay scattered around him, groaning, some unconscious, others too terrified to move.

Raghav tilted his head slightly, listening.

Helicopter blades.

Police sirens.

Human panic.

He smiled.

"Music."

🌌 A Streak of Light

Across the rooftops, something moved faster than the eye could follow.

A blur of dark armor and faint crimson glow.

Arjun.

Wind roared in his ears as he leaped from building to building, each landing cracking concrete beneath his feet. He didn't know how he was doing it. He just… moved.

Fear chased him as relentlessly as gravity.

"What if I'm too late?"

"Estimated arrival: twelve seconds."

"Twelve?!"

The explosion zone came into view.

Fire.

Smoke.

Destruction on a scale he had never imagined.

And in the center—

A figure.

Standing calmly.

Waiting.

Arjun's stomach dropped.

"That's… a person?"

"Energy signature confirmed. Hostile."

The figure looked up.

Straight at him.

Even from hundreds of meters away.

Then it smiled.

"Oh no," Arjun whispered.

💥 Impact

Raghav bent his knees slightly.

"Come to me."

Arjun landed at the edge of the crater with a thunderous boom, asphalt shattering beneath him. Dust surged into the air, briefly obscuring both figures.

When it cleared…

Two armored men stood facing each other.

Mirror images — yet completely different.

Arjun's suit glowed steadily, the red node pulsing like a heartbeat.

Raghav's suit burned erratically, energy leaking from it in jagged bursts.

For a long moment…

Neither spoke.

Arjun broke the silence.

"…Did you do this?"

Raghav glanced around casually.

"Oh, this? Just testing."

"People could have died!"

"People always die."

The calm cruelty in his voice sent chills down Arjun's spine.

"Who are you?"

Raghav stepped forward slowly.

"Someone who deserves this power far more than you."

Arjun clenched his fists.

"I didn't ask for it!"

"That's exactly the problem."

Energy flared around Raghav.

"You were chosen. I was denied."

Before Arjun could react—

Raghav vanished.

⚡ First Strike

Arjun barely had time to turn before something slammed into him from the side like a speeding train.

💥 BOOM 💥

He crashed through a half-collapsed building, smashing through walls and pillars before skidding to a stop in a cloud of dust.

Pain exploded across his body.

"AH—!"

"Damage minimal."

"Doesn't feel minimal!"

Raghav stepped through the hole he had created, completely unfazed.

"You're slower than I expected."

Arjun forced himself up.

"I don't want to fight you."

Raghav's eyes burned brighter.

"I do."

He attacked again.

This time Arjun raised his arms instinctively.

The punch connected.

Shockwaves rippled outward, blowing out every remaining window in the building.

But Arjun didn't fly backward.

He held.

Barely.

Strength met strength.

Raw force grinding against raw force.

Arjun's boots carved trenches into the concrete as he struggled to stay upright.

"You're… hurting people…" he gritted.

Raghav leaned closer.

"And you're in my way."

🔥 Awakening Under Pressure

Raghav twisted suddenly, driving his knee into Arjun's abdomen.

The impact launched him through the opposite wall and back into the open street.

He rolled, tumbling across broken asphalt.

Something inside him snapped.

Not bones.

Fear.

"I can't keep holding back…"

His chest burned.

The red node flared brighter than ever before.

🔥 ROOT CHAKRA — SURGE 🔥

Power flooded his muscles.

He stood.

Faster this time.

Steadier.

Raghav raised an eyebrow.

"Better."

Arjun dashed forward.

Their fists collided midair.

💥 SHOCKWAVE 💥

Dust blasted outward in a perfect circle.

Streetlights snapped like twigs.

Cars flipped.

For a moment, they were evenly matched.

Then Raghav grinned.

"Let me show you real power."

💀 Corrupted Energy

Black lightning crackled around Raghav's arm.

He drove his fist downward.

Arjun blocked—

Too late.

The blow smashed him into the ground, forming a deep crater.

The impact knocked the air from his lungs.

Vision blurred.

Energy from the corrupted heart node seeped into him — cold, suffocating, wrong.

"What… is this…?"

"Foreign energy detected. Harmful."

Raghav stepped into the crater, looming above him.

"You feel it, don't you? Power without limits."

He raised his foot to crush Arjun's head.

"You're not strong enough to protect anyone."

Arjun's mind flashed with images:

The officers he had accidentally hurt.

The terrified civilians.

The life he wanted but never had.

Something warm stirred beneath the fear.

Not anger.

Determination.

"I… won't… let you…"

The red glow intensified.

Then—

A second node flickered weakly.

Orange.

🔥 SACRAL CHAKRA — INITIAL RESPONSE 🔥

Energy burst outward, knocking Raghav back a step.

Arjun rolled away, gasping.

"What just happened?!"

"Secondary chakra attempting activation."

"Attempting?!"

Raghav laughed.

"Good. Break yourself trying."

🌌 Chaos Escalates

They charged at each other again.

Punches exchanged like thunderclaps.

Each impact reshaped the battlefield.

Buildings cracked.

Roads split.

Fire spread.

To any observer, it looked less like a fight…

…and more like two natural disasters colliding.

Arjun ducked a strike and countered with everything he had.

His fist connected with Raghav's chest.

For a split second—

Silence.

Then Raghav flew backward, skidding across the street before smashing into a concrete barrier.

Arjun stared at his own hand.

"I did that…?"

Smoke cleared.

Raghav stood.

Unharmed.

His smile returned.

"Yes… this is exactly what I wanted."

Energy surged wildly around him.

Unstable.

Explosive.

Self-destructive.

"You're not fighting to protect," Raghav said. "You're fighting because you're scared."

He raised both hands.

"And fear makes you weak."

A sphere of dark energy formed between his palms, twisting the air around it.

Arjun's instincts screamed danger.

"Can I block that?!"

"…Probability low."

"NOT HELPFUL!"

Raghav hurled the sphere.

It tore through the air like a miniature black sun.

Arjun braced himself—

But before it could hit—

A blinding beam of blue-white light slammed into the sphere from the side, detonating it midair.

💥 MASSIVE EXPLOSION 💥

Both combatants staggered.

Arjun blinked, stunned.

"Who…?"

From the edge of the battlefield, a sleek armored vehicle rolled forward, its mounted energy cannon smoking.

A voice echoed through external speakers:

"Step away from the target immediately."

Raghav tilted his head, amused.

"Oh… Father sent toys."

The vehicle doors opened.

Figures in advanced combat suits emerged.

And behind them…

A man in a long coat stepped into the firelight.

Dr. Ishaan Verma.

His eyes locked onto Raghav.

Pain. Shock. Recognition.

"…My son."

Raghav's smile faded.

"Hello, Father."

Arjun looked between them, confused.

"Wait… you two know each other?!"

Neither answered.

Because the battle had just become something far more personal.
