Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 :Between Rain and Feelings

The sky had been heavy since morning. Dark clouds slowly gathered, covering the soft blue above. By noon, the rain finally began—soft at first, like a whisper… then slowly turning into a steady rhythm.

College was dismissed early that day.

Students rushed out, trying to avoid getting drenched. Some ran, some laughed, some simply gave up and walked through the rain. But at the bus stop, under a small tin shade, stood Arif and Meghla.

Side by side. Silent.

Raindrops fell just a few inches away from them, creating tiny splashes on the muddy road. The air smelled fresh—the kind of smell that only rain can bring.

Meghla stretched her hand out slightly, letting a few drops fall on her palm. She smiled.

"I really love the rain," she said softly.

Arif looked at her, not at the rain.

"I do too… but today, I think I love it a little more."

Meghla turned her head, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh really? And why is that?"

Arif hesitated for a second. Then he smiled.

"Because you're here."

For a moment, everything felt still.

The rain kept falling. People kept moving. But between them, time slowed down.

Meghla didn't reply immediately. She just looked ahead, watching the rain, but her smile faded into something quieter… deeper.

"Why do you always say things like that?" she asked after a pause.

Arif shrugged lightly.

"I don't know… maybe because I don't think too much before speaking when I'm with you."

Meghla let out a soft laugh.

"You're strange, you know that?"

Arif nodded.

"Yeah… but only with you."

Another silence followed—but this time, it wasn't awkward.

It was warm.

A sudden gust of wind blew rainwater under the shade. Meghla stepped back instinctively, almost slipping on the wet ground. Arif quickly held her hand to steady her.

For a second, their hands stayed that way.

Neither of them moved.

Neither of them spoke.

It was just a simple touch… but it felt like something more.

Something unspoken.

Meghla slowly pulled her hand back, her cheeks slightly flushed. She looked away, pretending to adjust her dupatta.

"Thanks," she said quietly.

Arif nodded.

"Anytime."

But inside, his heart was racing.

Minutes passed. The rain didn't stop.

"No buses are coming anytime soon," Meghla said, looking at the empty road.

Arif glanced at the sky.

"Looks like we're stuck here for a while."

Meghla smiled.

"I don't mind."

Arif looked at her again.

"Yeah… me neither."

They started talking—about random things.

Favorite movies. Childhood memories. Silly fears.

Meghla told him how she used to be scared of thunderstorms as a kid.

Arif admitted he still couldn't sleep without checking his phone at least ten times.

They laughed. A lot.

And somewhere between those laughs, something changed.

The space between them didn't feel like space anymore.

It felt like connection.

As the rain slowly began to fade, a soft golden light broke through the clouds.

The world looked different.

Brighter.

Calmer.

Meghla looked up at the sky.

"Rain always leaves something behind, doesn't it?"

Arif followed her gaze.

"Yeah… it clears things."

Meghla turned to him.

"Like what?"

Arif smiled faintly.

"Like feelings you didn't know you had."

Their eyes met.

And this time, neither of them looked away.

A bus finally arrived in the distance.

Meghla sighed softly.

"Looks like it's time."

Arif nodded.

"Yeah…"

But neither of them moved immediately.

As if both were waiting… for something.

Maybe a word.

Maybe a moment.

Maybe a feeling to turn into something real.

As Meghla stepped onto the bus, she turned back once.

Arif was still standing there, watching her.

She smiled.

Not the usual carefree smile.

This one was different.

Softer.

Deeper.

And as the bus drove away, Arif realized something he hadn't fully understood before—

That day, in the rain, something had quietly begun.

Not just friendship.

Not just comfort.

But something that felt a lot like love.
