The empty space beside me told me everything I needed to know before I even opened my eyes. Riley was gone, and I knew exactly where she had gone. She'd been staring at that house all day, something heavy weighing on her mind that she refused to share with me. I should have realized what she was planning the moment I caught the scent of gasoline drifting through the night air.
Part of me wondered if she might regret this decision someday, but who was I to stop her? This was her choice to make. Maybe destroying that place would finally give her peace. She wouldn't have to drive past it every day and relive the nightmare that had unfolded within those walls. Maybe this was exactly what she needed to move forward.
