Chapter 1 - A Simple Start

Dave didn't really believe in big moments that change your life.

To him, life just moved slowly. Nothing special, nothing dramatic. Just the same routine every day.

College was like that for him.

He went to class, listened sometimes, ignored most things, and went back to his room. He knew some faces, but he didn't really talk to anyone. He told himself he was fine like that.

Then one day, he met Sophia.

It was just a normal Tuesday.

Dave was sitting in class, half paying attention, when the door opened. A girl walked in late, looking a bit rushed.

"Sorry," she said quietly to the lecturer before looking around for a seat.

Her eyes moved across the room, then stopped near Dave. There was an empty seat beside him.

"Is this seat free?" she asked.

Dave nodded. "Yeah."

She sat down next to him.

"That's how it started."

After a few minutes, she leaned a bit closer.

"Do you understand what he's teaching?" she whispered.

Dave shook his head slightly. "Not really."

She smiled. "Okay, good. I thought I was the only one."

That made Dave smile a little too.

"I'm Sophia," she said.

"Dave," he replied.

And just like that, they met.

After that day, they started sitting together in class.

At first, it just happened naturally. No planning. If one came early, they kept a seat for the other.

Then they started talking more.

At first, it was about school, assignments, lectures, tests. But after some time, it became more than that.

They talked about random things.

Music, funny memories, things that annoyed them, even small personal stuff.

Dave wasn't used to talking like that with someone.

But with Sophia, it felt easy.

She listened. She remembered things he said. And when he was quiet, she didn't force him to talk she just stayed.

That meant a lot to him, even if he didn't say it.

One evening, they were sitting outside a small café on campus.

Most people had already left, so it was quiet.

Sophia was talking about something, laughing and explaining with her hands.

Dave was just watching her.

Not in a strange way. Just… paying attention.

The way she smiled. The way she laughed without holding back.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" she suddenly asked.

Dave looked away quickly. "Like what?"

"Like you're thinking too much," she said with a small smile.

"I'm not," he replied.

She didn't say anything else. She just smiled and continued talking.

But something felt different after that.

Not something big.

Just… something small.

Dave still didn't believe in big life-changing moments.

But if someone asked him when things started to change, he would think of that day.

A normal Tuesday.

An empty seat.

And a girl named Sophia.

And somehow, that was enough.
