The Silver Grove was no longer the serene sanctuary Elara remembered. The once-luminescent trees were now choked by obsidian vines, and the air tasted of ozone and rot. At the center of the grove stood a colossal, gnarled figure—the Void-Corrupted Treant.
It stood five meters tall, its bark cracked and oozing a violet, bioluminescent sap. Where a face should have been, there was only a hollowed-out cavity filled with swirling shadow.

Ren crouched behind a low stone wall, his eyes fixed on the beast. Beside him, Elara was chanting under her breath, her hands glowing with a faint, silvery light as she channeled her remaining mana into a temporary buff for Ren's machine.
"I can't kill it," she whispered, her brow beaded with sweat. "But I can soften its bark. My 'Lunar Mark' will expose its core for a few seconds."
"That's all I need," Ren replied. He tapped his interface, overclocking the Clockwork Sentry-01.
[Active Skill: Overdrive.]

The Treant let out a sound like grinding stones and slammed a massive, root-covered fist into the earth. The ground shook, sending a shockwave toward them.
"Now!" Ren commanded.
Elara stood, her silver hair whipping in the wind. She pointed her hand at the Treant, and a bolt of moonlight streaked across the clearing, striking the monster's chest. The obsidian vines shrivelled back, revealing a pulsing, purple crystal embedded in the wood.
"Sentry! Focus fire on the Core!"
The Sentry-01 erupted into motion. It didn't just stand and fire; its hydraulic legs allowed it to leap onto a nearby tilted pillar, raining down steel bolts at a blistering pace. Thwip-thwip-thwip!
The bolts sank deep into the Treant's exposed heart. The monster roared, its massive branches swiping through the air, shattering the pillar where the Sentry had been a second before. The machine was already mid-air, its blue eye tracking the target with cold, mechanical precision.
[Treant Health: 1,100... 850... 600...]
"It's regenerating!" Elara cried out. The black vines were already starting to knit the wound shut. "We don't have enough firepower!"
Ren smiled—a sharp, confident look that made Elara pause. "Who said I only had one weapon?"
He reached into his belt and pulled out a small, glass vial filled with a swirling red liquid: Alchemist's Fuel, a rare drop he'd scavenged from a Void Rat Elite earlier. He tossed it toward the Sentry.
The Sentry-01 caught the vial in a specialized intake port on its side. Instantly, the steam venting from its chassis turned a fiery orange.
[Sentry-01 Evolution: Flame-Burst Protocol Active.]
The next bolt the Sentry fired wasn't just steel—it was glowing white-hot. Upon impact with the Treant's core, it exploded.
BOOM!
The Treant's upper torso vanished in a cloud of splinters and purple fire. The massive creature tottered for a moment, then crashed to the ground, its body dissolving into grains of black sand and shimmering loot.

Ren walked into the clearing as the smoke cleared. Among the ashes lay a glowing, heart-shaped seed and a pile of Iron-Oak Timber.

Elara walked up behind him, her eyes wide as she looked at the Sentry-01, which was now cooling down, its brass skin slightly scorched. "You used my mana to find the weakness, but you used the environment to finish it. I've never seen a Lord manage a unit with such... clinical efficiency."
"A landlord doesn't just collect rent, Elara," Ren said, picking up the Heart of the Grove. "He maintains the property. This heart? It's not just loot. It's the engine for our first permanent structure."
He opened his build menu, which had expanded significantly after the boss kill.

"Elara," Ren said, turning to her. "How would you like to be the Head Architect of this kingdom? I'll provide the materials and the protection. You provide the design and the 'magical touch' these machines are missing."
Elara looked at her hands, then at the vast, expanding island. She realized she wasn't a prisoner here. She was a partner in something much larger than a survival game.
"I accept," she said softly. "But Ren... look at the sky."
Ren looked up. The violet mist was receding, but in the distance, hundreds of small, flickering lights were appearing. They weren't stars. They were the Cores of other Lords—and many of them were blinking red, signalling distress.
"The first night is over," Ren whispered. "Now comes the 'Tenant Recruitment' phase."
