Chapter 2 - THE DISCOVERY

After the incident, everyone in the orphanage became terrified of Tom. Not just everyone in the orphanage, the world knew what happened that day. Newspapers, articles were released about the incident, the child who killed a girl, the cursed child who everyone was talking about. All the muggles knew what happened.

Since the news was widespread, the wizarding world also knew, Professor Albus Dumbledore, A tall, and very old, profound wizard judging by his silver hair and beard heard about the tragic incident done by an eleven (11) year old boy,

He knew the only possible explanation was that he did it with magic and that the boy was a wizard, but he wanted to confirm his hypothesis.

Professor Albus Dumbledore sent a letter to the Muggle orphanage,

He wrote in his letter,

Mrs. Margret. Collins

HEADMASTER: Albus Dumbledore

Dear Mrs. Collins

I am sorry for the inconvenience, but regarding the boy, you all say might be cursed, "Mr. T. Riddle," I am writing to you.

The boy has shown exemplary skill, different from the normal behavior you all know. I know he might seem different, but I want to ask to take him under my wings and enroll him in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he would learn under my supervision and some of our finest professors.

I would like to come personally to check on the boy. I ask you to be assured that he would fit right in.

Yours sincerely,

Albus Dumbledore

He sent the letter in a normal envelope through a mailing system, like the way Muggles do. Later that day, Madam Collins read the letter and was stunned by the way the man "Albus Dumbledore" wrote in the letter, and was also very confused.

She had not seen anyone calling a strange behavior 'exemplary', and she had not heard of a school like Hogwarts before. But some part of her was happy Tom would be leaving her orphanage; he had already given enough reputation to the school, as it seems.

She was even considering handing Tom over to the authorities before Dumbledore's letter.

A few days passed, and Dumbledore came to the orphanage. The woman was shocked to see a man like him, different from anyone she had seen, a man with hair and a beard silver in color, long enough to reach his belt. She welcomed him into the orphanage,

In the orphanage, she told Dumbledore,

"I admit some confusion upon receiving your letter, Mr. Dumbledore," she said, walking him up the stairs to where Tom's room was,

"In all the years Tom's been here, he's never once had either a family visitor or someone who cared to show interest in him," Madam Collins told him,

She also added, "There have been incidents with other children, Nasty thing, the death of Miss Polly wasn't the first."

They arrived at Tom's room door. "Tom, you have a visitor," she said fearfully as she opened the door,

Dumbledore saw Tom and walked gradually into the room. He said his greetings as he entered, Madam Collins left, but still looked terrified,

Dumbledore sat down with little Tom. Tom, who sat on his chair, asked,

"You are not the doctor, are you?"

"No, I am a professor," Dumbledore replied,

"I don't believe you," Tom told Dumbledore. He also added, "She wants me looked at. They think I'm different, I know I'm different."

"Well, perhaps they're right," Dumbledore told him,

Tom, whose eyes were still wet, said, "I am not mad."

Dumbledore told him in return, "Hogwarts is not a place for mad people; Hogwarts is a school, A school of magic."

There was a brief silence in the room,

Dumbledore saw his green eyes,

He told Tom, "You can do things, can't you, Tom? Things other children can't,"

Tom then replied with a sad expression on his face, "I can make things move without touching them, I can make animals do what I want without training them, I can make bad things happen to people who are mean to me, I can make them hurt... If I want," he then asked him,

"Who are you?"

Dumbledore also tried to match the sad expression on Tom's face. He replied, "I'm like you, Tom, I'm different."

Tom then told Dumbledore, "Prove it."

Dumbledore, without moving, set Tom's room wardrobe on fire,

Tom was shocked to see the burning wardrobe and was glad; he had a smirk on his face.

"I think there is something in your wardrobe trying to get out, Tom," Dumbledore said,

Tom went to open up his wardrobe, and he saw a shaking container which wasn't ablaze with the other parts of the wardrobe. He took out the container, opened it on his bed,

Dumbledore saw all the things he had taken that weren't rightfully his,

"Thievery is not tolerated at Hogwarts, Tom," Dumbledore said. "At Hogwarts, you'll be taught not only magic, but how to control it, do you understand me?" he asked Tom,

Tom could not say anything; Dumbledore took his coat and headed towards the door,

"I can speak to snakes too; they find me…..,

Whisper things…,

Is that normal for someone like me?" Tom said,

His statement made Dumbledore turn back,

He reached inside his coat and brought a letter out, one quite different from the one he wrote to Madam Collins. It was in a thick and heavy envelope, made up of yellowish parchment, and the address was written in emerald green ink; there was no stamp.

Questions filled Tom's head, and he could not decide which to ask first. After some time, he asked, "How do I send my owl with the reply?"

"Don't worry, I have taken care of that, but you would need to get some things for your first day," Dumbledore replied

Tom was stunned and was also confused. "How do I get all I need? I have no money, and it doesn't seem the orphanage would want to sponsor someone like me. I didn't even get to go to normal school, let alone a magic one," Tom said

Dumbledore has a smile on his face, "That's nothing to worry about, Tom," he said

"Firstly, you would need to find Diagon Alley, A place not far from the reach of all wizards,

All you need to do is just ask. LONDON IS A PLACE FILLED WITH MORE THINGS THAN THE EYES CAN SEE. Dumbledore noted,

"London!" Tom escalated,

"And for the fees to all your expenses, once you've found your way into Diagon Alley," Dumbledore said, bringing out a key from his coat, "Gringotts is the answer to that."

"Gringotts, Professor, I don't understand all you've said," Tom told him, looking lost in thought.

Professor Dumbledore said, "You will when the time is right, a wizard always does."

Tom, still confused, decided to check the other parts of his letter.
